Chapter 8.2: Tough Task Before New Year =.=

The word pierced into Zheng Shuyi's mind like a thorn. Suddenly, her body felt numb and every cell in her body was urging her to leave.

If I run into her at this time, I'd be done for!

At the same time, footsteps sounded from the room.

Zheng Shuyi didn't have the energy to process Shi Yan's question. She even wanted to reverse the time for an hour and tell herself to never come here in the first place.

"Uh yes! No misunderstandings with your niece. I'll be going." The sudden panic even made Zheng Shuyi's words sound funny, "You should rest early too."

The second she finished speaking, she stepped out and closed the door with her.

After a bang, the room turned silent again.

Qin Shiyue walked out of the study room and asked curiously, "Who is it? I think I heard a woman's voice?"

Shi Yan slowly turned around and walked to the balcony.

Seeing that he seemed to be in a good mood, Qin Shiyue rushed forward, "Who is it? Your girlfriend?"

Shi Yan sat on the chair, picked up the unfinished magazine, and gave Qin Shiyue a cold glance.

Qin Shiyue instantly became quiet.

She squatted down quietly and looked at Shi Yan with a pair of puppy eyes.

"I thought about it, maybe I shouldn't go to work for now? Can I go attend a study tour abroad?"

"Study tour?" Shi Yan didn't even bother to look up as he replied coldly, "You think you're good enough for these two words?"

Qin Shiyue: ""

She didn't understand why people have to work hard.

Since middle school, Qin Shiyue had already realized something: The money her family had would be more than enough for her to live three lifetimes.

The whole family was working hard to earn money, so there had to be someone to spend them. She obviously had to be that person.

So, she finished high school without the slightest worry in her mind. She could barely memorize any chemical equations but knew the components in makeup better than her chemistry teacher.

Naturally, her grades weren't very high either. Her family was really disappointed in her and yet couldn't do anything about it. In the end, they spent a huge sum of money to get her into a foreign university.

It was that this year, she almost failed to graduate.

"Almost" didnt mean that her grades were almost there, but it was because she got expelled from the school.

The university's persistence and the Shi Family's relationship finally got her the degree that she needed to graduate.

But this time, even Qin Xiaoming, who has always loved her a lot, was disappointed by her.

Shi Yan didn't say much at the time, so Qin Shiyue felt a lot more relieved.

After all, she was never afraid of anyone since she was a child. Anyone, except for Shi Yan.

Unexpectedly, after a few days, Shi Yan arranged for her to go work at Finance Weekly.

It was at that time when Qin Shiyue finally realized that she made Shi Yan really pissed too.

But going to work was as frightening for Qin Shiyue as a lightning bolt striking on her.

She never even bothered to attend high school classes on time and now she had to go work nine to five just for a few thousand yuan a month?

"Uncle, it's already December," Qin Shiyue made a crying face, "Two more months and it's Chinese New Year. Can't we until wait after that?"

Shi Yan didn't seem to hear her at all.

Qin Shiyue begged for a very long time and only received one sentence in the end.

"Our family don't raise useless people."

Qin Shiyue: ""

December was the time when corporations and companies start recruiting new workers, and Finance Weekly was no exception. A lot of newly graduated students would be looking for internships and jobs during this period.

However, in Finance Weekly, an old media company independent from the southern media, it was hard for employees to get in but easy for them to lose their job. The editing department of Finance Weekly, one of the most important departments in the publishing process, only got a minimal amount of new employees every year.

It was said that the supervisor for the real-estate team next door was so strict that all of the resumes were straight up rejected.

As for the financial team, the news spread quickly. Most people heard that this year was a good year, and two new interns would be coming this afternoon.

After lunch, Tang Yi called Zheng Shuyi into her office.

When she came back out, she was holding a resume in her hand.

"What is it?" Kong Nan asked her to show her the resume, "The editor-in-chief wants you to help one of the new interns?"

Zheng Shuyi shrugged and threw her the resume.

"What a bother."

Kong Nan opened the resume and glanced at the photo.

"Not bad, she looks pretty good."

Then she looked down to the school column and raised her eyebrows.

"Her academic background is even better, she went to the same school with our editor-in-chief. Not a bad person, what's the bother?"

Zheng Shuyi rested her chin on her hand and slowly closed her eyes.

"Look at her grades."

Kong Nan looked down and found that the overall grades were very low. In the education column, other than attending a singing contest in school, there wasn't really anything else. It seemed that she just played through her whole university years."

Such a background was almost impossible to find.

Kong Nan returned the resume back to Zheng Shuyi and made a happy smile, "The editor-in-chief seems to be really nice to you! Threw you such a hot potato, haha."

Zheng Shuyi just placed her head on the table and said nothing.

After lunch, the human resource assistant walked in with a handful of tools in her hands, placed them on an empty chair beside Zheng Shuyi, and started checking if all the computers were working properly.

Looking at her motions, Zheng Shuyi sighed.

Such a bother.

Not only did she have to do her job, but she also had to spend a lot of effort to deal with Shi Yan. There was no energy left in her to teach an intern.

If it was a clever person who could learn quickly, then that wouldn't too big of an issue. But looking at the resume, that didn't seem likely.

On top of that, Tang Yi didn't allow her to refuse and said that she must be the one to do this task. Apparently, everything was for her own good.

It was impossible to refuse such a persisting request.

After being frustrated at the table for twenty minutes, the person that she didn't want to see still came.

The footsteps got closer and closer. The entire financial team turned their heads around and saw the HR assistant leading a young lady here.

The girl looked pretty from far away. Without taking a second look, anyone could tell that she probably had quite a status, but it was also not hard to notice that her eyes lacked the excitement of the first day as an intern.

The HR brought the person in front of Zheng Shuyi, explained a few things, and then left.

The two people stood in front of each other with signs of unwillingness written all over their plastic smiles as they started to introduce themselves.

"Hello, I'm Zheng Shuyi, happy to work with you."

"Hello, I'm Qin Shiyue, a pleasure to meet you."

After sitting down, Zheng Shuyi started to revise the interview draft with Shi Yan. She completely lost track of time as she worked until when suddenly, Kong Nan coughed twice and motioned her to check her phone.

On WeChat.

Kong Nan: That intern has been playing on her phone for more than an hour. I think she's quite confused, you should arrange something for her to do.

Zheng Shuyi turned to look at Qin Shiyue.

Confused?

I think she's having a lot of fun.

But after all, the editor-in-chief gave her this task. She can't just sit there and let her alone.

She thought for a while and decided to arrange something easy for Qin Shiyue to do first.

"Xiao1means young or small. Using it in front of someone's name is an affectionate and informal way to address someone younger Yue," Zheng Shuyi handed her a recording pen, "this is for you."

Qin Shiyue looked over and Zheng Shuyi continued, "Inside is a recording of an interview I did earlier. Please sort out the content carefully and write a practice draft. Give it to me before you leave."

Isn't that just basically writing down what I'm hearing? Okay, not too bad.

Qin Shiyue nodded, "Okay."

She put on the earbuds and opened the audio file. Seeing the name being: "Shi Yan Interview Recording 12.10", she was taken back for a second. The fear of her uncle immediately surrounded her body.

Then, she clicked on the file and saw that it lasted for 120 minutes. The fear became even worse.

Then, she began to listen.

Shi Yan's answer to the first question was 378 words. All Chinese and perfect pronunciation.

But Qin Shiyue only understood 50 of those words, barely a fraction.

She pulled the progress bar with her fingers stiffly and barely understood anything. She almost blacked out on the spot.

Why do I have to be tortured like this just two months before Chinese New Year?!
