A Wanderer's Lies

Chapter 62: Rewards [2]

Chapter 62: Rewards [2]

'Okay, let's go through this one by one.'

Isaac calmed himself down as he took a deep breath, his eyes never leaving his status screen.

'Firstly, this perk.'

[Feed: You can feed on the power and PS of others, adding it to your own (Zobae)]

'Well, seeing as how I don't remember achieving this perk, or have no knowledge on how to perform it, I think it's safe to say this…isn't my perk.'

And staring at the last word, it was clear as day what…or who it belonged to.

'Is this why the Thing is so strong? Because it has this broken ability.'

Isaac imagined what it would be like to have a perk like this. It was one which people would kill for, including himself.

'There's no point in worrying over a Perk I can't use.'

Isaac shrugged. It was disappointing, but he had other focuses at the moment.

But he knew in his heart, he was going to find out more about this perk.

He wanted it.

The Thief and Con-Artist inside him was itching.

[Nature's Disaster:

You are more likely to be involved in disastrous events]

'Nature's Disaster? I see it's finally decided to share its epithet. I still don't know its name.'

As Isaac thought this, he read the description, rubbing his forehead as he did.

'Are…you kidding me? I'm Drawn to disastrous events?'

Isaac couldn't help but stare, countless emotions flowing through him. But most notably, anger.

'Damnit.'

Anger that his goal of peace now seemed like a feeble dream as long as this Calamity haunted him.

He knew what it was like to live without peace. He was a pawn and slave his whole life on the streets.

Owned by gangs to be used as a scapegoat. He was lucky the law was lenient on orphan children.

Forced to scam and steal and live like livestock.

He hated it.

He wanted peace. He wanted to live carefree, doing whatever he liked till the day he died.

Even now, Isaac was like a rabbit hiding in a hole, scared of the world outside.

Now something stood in the way of his peace.

And after today's events, he had no problem estimating the trouble this Calamity posed to him.

'Calm down.'

Isaac breathed rhythmically, noticing his eyes felt different.

'Peace isn't something I can have now. This was the case even before this Calamity.'

Isaac had a plan since before he entered Spawn.

The day he exited his scenario and Orion warned him.

'To get strong enough that no one or nothing can take away my peace.'

Whether it'd be the S.A., his next few Scenarios or this Calamity.

Isaac was fine with laying low, building his strength in the darkness. Even if it meant he had to struggle a little.

'But there will be a day.'

A day where Isaac emerged from the shadows.

A day where he could make all of Spawn tremble at his name.

A day where no one ever dared to mess with him again.

Only then could he attain his peace and do whatever he wanted.

Until then, Isaac would suppress his anger and keep moving.

'As for this Calamity. I'll find it and kill it as soon as possible.'

Moving on, Isaac stared the last Curse that bothered him.

[Bound to a Wizard]

'What the hell does this mean?'

Once again, Isaac was clueless. The title of Wizard didn't narrow it down either, seeing as how Mana and Magic was the most popular PS amongst Inheritors.

'Jeez, couldn't the verses have a little more originality?'

Isaac was starting to think the verses had a consciousness and copied one another due to no creativity.

'But…'

Isaac summoned a mirror from his dimensional space, putting it before him as he turned his head.

'...I think it has something to do with this.'

Isaac deduced, staring at the mark on his neck.

It looked like a simple tattoo of two rings interlocking. Yet, this was the first time Isaac was seeing it.

Although, there was one possibility, though he had no evidence supporting this point.

'That girl. The one with the purple hair.'

The same girl who was able to cancel Isaac's Nen, rendering the Thing to break free.

Isaac hadn't seen her again after regaining consciousness, so he'd simply assumed she died to the Thing.

'Her name was Merlin.'

Isaac only remembered her name because of the folklore and legend surrounding Merlin.

'A figure from Arthurian legends. A magician said to be an advisor to King Arthur.'

Ancient mythology intrigued Isaac. He wasn't an expert since he could never find the time to research it, but he knew a fair amount.

'Jayne called her a 'perfect creation'. Could it be? She's a possession, straight out of a verse?'

After a few seconds, Isaac put away his mirror as he sighed.

There were too many questions without much answers.

Isaac decided to come back to this topic. It was only giving him a headache at the moment.

And so, he turned his attention to the items before him, rubbing his hands together and practically licking his lips as he stared at the first reward.

'This sword should go for a hefty price.'

Isaac didn't want or need Anubis. He was simply hoping for some rich idiot to take it off his hands.

Rather, he was interested in the two remaining items.

Since he'd already had an in depth discussion on the Eight Gates Art with Adams, he put it aside for now.

He was planning to start training it as soon as possible.

This left him with Jayne's Dimensional Ring.

Putting it on his finger, the knowledge of all the contents inside flowed into his mind.

As this happened, Isaac raised an eyebrow, summoning everything on the desk before him.

Firstly, was a few vials with a Crimson liquid inside.

Grabbing one of them and popping the cap, the feint metallic aroma wafted around Isaac's nostrils.

It didn't take him long to notice the liquid was blood.

'I'd ask why she needed this, but after seeing the form she took as a corpse, I don't think I should be using human common sense here.'

Looking to the side, Isaac noticed a handful of dimensional rings, braclets and brown sacks.

It was clear he wasn't the only one who made it a priority to loot their fallen foes.

During the next few minutes, Isaac would check every dimensional item, looting everything that he found inside.

The result?

'Absolutely nothing. Just a bunch of Swatches.'

Isaac stared at the pile of swatches on his table, like the one he had. They acted as smartphones in Spawn, but Isaac already had his own.

He certainly didn't need all this.

'Well, the dimensional spaces should go for some decent money.'

Upon thinking this, a thought came to Isaac.

Tapping on one of the swatches, Isaac pressed on the screen a few times as a sum appeared before him.

Simultaneously, Isaac grinned widely.

[Dave Collins' Balance: 587,284S]

'Nice!'

Isaac cheered inwardly. Additionally, the swatch didn't seem to have any security, allowing him to quickly transfer the money to his account.

'I guess Jayne did this on purpose to have a little pocket changed.'

Isaac shrugged.

And so, he began clearing every cent from the swatches.

***

'What the hell?'

Isaac, about to transfer money from the last watch, paused as he stared at the name of the watch's owner.

[Xavier Hall's Balance: 2,686,090S]

'My Nen instructor? The blind guy? What's his swatch doing here?'

Isaac pondered, turning the swatch over and staring at it.

Isaac simply thought these were the swatches of the people Jayne had killed, but perhaps he was wrong.

Despite Isaac being confused, he still didn't forget to transfer the money. He wasn't that intrigued in the mystery to pass up two million S.

[Balance: 27,721,080S]

Isaac smiled upon seeing his balance.

Putting Xavier's swatch to the side and collecting the remaining swatches in his dimensional space, Isaac's eyes skimmed over the pile of small tennis ball sized black orbs and mana potions.

[Artifact (Forged): Incantation Orbs (C-Rank)

Description: These solid obsidian balls can hold and release spells up to C-Rank upon destruction.]

'I'm slowly getting sick of seeing the Mana and Magic PS everywhere.'

Isaac sighed.

Seeing the item had no requirement, as long as someone could brand it with a spell, anyone could release it.

Despite his newfound hate for magic, even he had to admit it was a useful Artifact.

'Jayne couldn't use Magic, so I'm assuming it was for Merlin.'

Either way, Isaac put it aside for now, focusing on the last item.

One which he could help but stare at for a few seconds.

It was a cube made of a solid metal. As for its design, there wasn't much to be said. With a simple black colour, it fashioned a single circle on one of its many sides.

[Artifact (Forged): Phonic Prism (D-Rank)

Requirements: N/A

Description:

A cube which plays a records audio]

'Hmm'

As Isaac turned the box, he pressed the small circle in the middle.

-HUMMMMM

The box vibrated as Isaac removed his hands. In a few seconds, the hum halted as a loud voice rang out.

"Followers, Priests and Bishops of Onyx, the time is near."

'Crap, too loud!'

Listening to the first sentence, Isaac jumped a little as the loud audio broke the silence suddenly.

'It'll wake Oliver and Zach…'

As Isaac scurried to turn the device off, he paused as he heard the next words spoken from the cube.

"It won't be long until we fulfil the prophecy. In one months time, Aurelius Academy will fall."

'W-What…'

Next chapter title (single chapter) : Onyx

Also, I made a mistake. Jayne wasn't a Bishop, but a Priest.

Think of this ranking system as the same one in Nox from God Of Highschool.

As usual...
