A Wanderer's Lies

Chapter 39: Nen Class [2]

Chapter 39: Nen Class [2]

Isaac sat before his table, inside his room as he stared at the items on his table. With his fingers on his chin, Isaac had an eyebrow raised, a perplexed demeanour showing on his face.

'What the hell are these?'

Before him lay a handful of transparent pill-shaped items. They were small and didn't seem to have any sort of openings.

Despite the peculiar nature of what Isaac assumed to be some sort of medicine, he did somewhat recognise it.

They were the same pills Silver had stuffed in his mouth before his immense power boost.

'Although, those were red.'

Despite there being a few blood-red pills amongst the transparent ones, this didn't help Isaac.

Isaac pondered on the topic for a few more minutes but to no avail.

Losing interest, he looked to the second and last item, a mesmerising blue sphere.

It seemed to have a whole galaxy trapped within, as it somewhat shifted, turning within itself with purple hints hidden inside.

'Great. Another…'

As Isaac wrapped his hands around the sphere, a screen appeared before him.

[Artifact (Forged): Mage's Nucleus.

Rank: B-

Requirements: Mana PS

Description: Amplifies a Mage's spells and mana, also allowing them to cast spells beyond their current level.]

'Oh, an Artifact, huh?'

There are two types of 'Items' in this world.

Artefacts. One of the last things Isaac had learned from the helmet. Typically, during the early stages of Inheritors coming to fruition, Artifacts could only be acquired as a reward for completing a Scenario.

However, recently, Inheritors have found a way to create Artifacts for themselves.

This is confirmed by the system, which presents a screen before you whenever you touch an Artifact.

However, the system does make it a fact to differentiate the two types by adding the words 'forged' beside the Artifact name.

This of course caused an uproar in Spawn, and soon, it became a regular practice to create Artifacts.

However, it was incredibly hard to do so. And Inheritors have still been unable to forge an Artifact above B+ rank.

In other words, any Artifact above B+ was one straight out of a Scenario.

Of course, these were rare, and hard to find. It was because of this that Artifacts above S rank weren't a thing.

Those were called something else.

The second type of 'Items' was called National Treasures.

These didn't have a rank and were just thought to be items above S rank Artifacts.

They could only be attained through a scenario, and were thought to be items people would die for.

Although, Isaac didn't know this from the helmet.

No, instead, he learned of National Treasures, after finding out he had one of his own.

These were, of course, the Scarlet Eyes.

This was why Isaac made it a top priority to find himself a Storage Device.

If anyone knew he owned it…

'Well, I'd rather not think about that.'

Isaac sighed.

But now, with this orb…

'It's not like I can use it anyway. But a B- Artifact should fetch me a hefty price on the market.'

With this, Isaac should be able to find himself a Storage Device.

'I'll figure out what these things do later.'

***

It had been two days since the battle between Isaac and Silver. Although not a long time, It felt like a week to Isaac.

Since the battle with Silver, Isaac hadn't had a wink of sleep. Not that he needed it.

His Zobae Disease ignored most human necessities like food and sleep.

Using this to his advantage, Isaac devoted the last two days to gaining knowledge.

It was because of this knowledge he was able to find a way to sell his Mage's Nucleus and buy quite the simple-looking brown bracelet.

This, of course, was a Storage Device.

For a time, Isaac felt quite powerful with the amount of money he had. He didn't know what the conversion rate from S to real-world money was, but it couldn't have been small.

However, upon buying his Storage Device, one that he'd spent most of his money buying, he almost spat blood.

'I guess the thirst for money is still inside me.'

Isaac chuckled, remembering his past.

Despite all this, what Isaac had spent all his time investigating, was the Nen classes.

Since the students had different, Characters, verses and PS, there was no way for the Academy to teach them independently.

Therefore, each student was given a personalised schedule that fit their needs.

Students from the Naruto verse would be enrolled into chakra training, those who shared a Mana PS were taught magic, and those from the HxH verse were trained in Nen.

Of course, this went for Isaac too, who was currently standing amidst a few dozen students in a large hall.

Amongst the students, a clearing could be seen not too far away from Isaac.

And in the middle of the clearing, stood a single female student.

'I knew it. Well, I'd be a fool not to. Even though she tries her best to hide it, I can still sense the faint Nen oozing from her.'

Maybe it could fool someone less proficient in Nen, but not Isaac.

Currently, Isaac's biggest problem was somehow hiding the fact he knew Nen.

But, he'd already figured out a plan for this. A plan that would allow him to hide in plain sight as nobody important.

Isaac was confident this would work. There was no room for error.

As he thought this, someone suddenly walked into the large hall, garnering all the student's attention as they turned their heads.

-TAK TAK TAK

Walking toward the front of the hall, and stepping onto a small elevated surface, Isaac couldn't help but raise an eyebrow as he stared at the man.

With a bald head, flip flops a bright floral shirt and similarly designed shorts, the man seemed as if he were on holiday.

This assumption seemed all the more plausible upon witnessing the man's bright and wide smile.

But most surprisingly, was the man's walking stick and closed eyes.

'Is he…blind?'

Turning his head to the students, the man spoke.

"It's a pleasure to meet you all. My name is Mr Hall, and I'll be your Nen instructor for this year." The man spoke in a loud and cheerful voice.

Upon the man speaking, whispers could be heard amongst the students.

Isaac was inclined not to judge a book by its cover, seeing as how he'd witnessed a lady transform into a cat, and a man die, only to live on as a black skeleton, but he was struggling to deduce the meaning of the man's closed eyes.

'It probably has something to do with his Nen ability.'

"Now, if it's alright with you, I'd like to get started. It's no secret most of you have yet to learn of Nen, but by the end of today, that will no longer be the case." Mr Hall continued to smile as he spoke.

"What?"

"He must be exaggerating."

"It takes at least 6 months to open your aura nodes. He's bluffing."

"Yes, you're right. It does take 6 months to open your aura nodes." Mr Hall replied to one of the many whispering students, S the boy noticed and felt slightly embarrassed.

"But that would only be the case if we were doing this the normal way. No, instead, I will personally be forcing your Aura Nodes open."

Gasps were heard in the hall. For the students who knew what he was referring to, they couldn't help but widen their eyes and fall speechless.

"But Instructor, isn't the practice of forcing one's Aura Nodes open seen as taboo?! Additionally, it's extremely dangerous!" A girl raised her hand, yelling in shock.

"Yeah. And?"

The female was taken aback as she stammered.

"Hey, shut up. Don't you know who that is? That's Xavier Hall. Famous for his peculiar teaching methods, like forcing a student's Aura Nodes open. But the thing is, he's never failed at being successful, so the Academy turned a blind eye to it. No pun intended."

Upon one of the female's friends nudging her from the side, the girl chose to stay quiet, realising her mistake.

Meanwhile, not too far from them, a boy with amber eyes and messy black hair could be seen sweating profusely.

'Crap!'

"What are you, a wimp? Are you here to become stronger, or worry and cry like a widow over a grave." Mr Hall tightened his fist as his voice rang through the area.

'This guy…is nuts! The one thing I didn't account for. Who knew he'd be forcing out Aura Nodes open.'

In Isaac's research, he'd figured out Spawn also followed the mentality of the HxH verse, frowning upon this practice.

It seemed Isaac simply had the bad luck of encountering Mr Hall.

"Now, let's begin. I believe we're starting from the bottom up. It was the funny number and the weird missing second name."

Mr Hall put his finger on his chin as he pondered.

"Ah, that's it. First up, Rank 769, Isaac!"

Everyone turned their heads, looking around as a boy soon raised his hand.

All eyes were on Isaac as he wore a stoic demeanour, however, inside…

'Shit, Time for Plan B.'
