A Story of Evil

Chapter 108: Midnight Raid II

Chapter 108: Midnight Raid II

The wolves howled so loudly and powerfully that the ground began shaking and, the branches of the nearby trees began rustling. Their mana surged, stronger than before and, their bloodlust was just the same.

One could feel the intensity of their power at that point. With Sol looking at their description in order to measure the power difference.

[Monster Type: Bloodmoon Wolf]

[Level: 50]

[Species: Wolf]

[Information: ???]

"Alice we may be in a bit of a pickle here."

"Why? What's its level.

"Fifty." Alice whistled at this, looking nervously at their opponent but nevertheless unafraid.

"Think we can take it down?" Alice asked.

"That depends. So you want to make a truce on our deal first?"

"If it involves not dying then, I'd agree with anything."

There was a good reason why the two waited instead of attacking. They were looking for a decent fight. This is for the sole purpose of properly gauging their strength. What they lacked and, what needed to be improved.

Although the normal wolves did pose a bit of a challenge, they felt it lacking for the amount of excitement they held for that fight.

That's why they openly welcomed the new contender. Thinking that this would be able to quench their thirst for battle. Something which they have been starved of for so long.

"Get ready."

"You don't have to tell me twice."

The remaining wolves grew twice as big. Their fur turned midnight black; camouflaged by the surroundings which was just as dark. Yet their yellow eyes stayed true. Gleaming even stronger at that point. Showing rage for all their defeated comrades and, all the humiliation they experienced at the hands of two humans.

This didn't stop Sol from unleashing a  gravity bind on them. Stopping the monsters just before they could attack. Swiftly following was Alice's sword, whipped to hit the head of one wolf.

The monsters were able to escape the gravity bind even before they were hit. Moving to three parts of the battlefield and all charging up what seemed to be a red beam of light. Sol began [Reverse Analysis] but was too late as, the attack was fired as soon as it was formed.

Alice backed up to where Sol was and the boy proceeded to redirecting the three beams with his gravity magic. Making it reach the sky which momentarily turned red.

The wolves followed up with claw attacks. Razor sharp winds were generated by the tip of their claws. All being aimed at the two humans.

Sol and Alice were able to dodge this again. With Alice swinging her sword to a tree branch. Making its blade dig into the wood as she retracted the weapon. Pulling both her and Solomon who grabbed on her waist.

"Hey you're a bit too closed don't you think?" Alice mentioned.

"Is that even relevant right now?" Sol asked; letting go as soon as they were up the tree branch.

The wolves didn't give them time to think. More of the bright red beams were fired once again. With Alice and Sol finally separating in order to avoid the blast. One which destroyed the wall of vines on where it hit.

The walls shook and so did the ground. Slowing down both Sol and Alice momentarily. This gave the wolves another window of opportunity. Running at the walls which surprised Alice.

"How is that even fair?"

"Beats me, but at least they're getting within range." Sol said. Preparing to attack together with Alice.

Yet just as they locked on to their targets, the wolves disappeared from sight. As if merging with the shadows.

Sol and Alice couldn't seen the wolves anymore. But that didn't mean they were completely blind.

Solomon had his [Spatial Awareness]. Allowing him to see the whole battlefield through its perspective. Alice, on the other hand, had [Danger Sense]. Telling her when the enemy is close by.

Through both these skill, they dodged the next attack that came. The wolves sprung from nowhere and tried biting the humans. Both Sol and Alice dodged and, while doing so, released their own attack. The wolves were able to dodge this and returned back to the shadows.

There were only two wolves however as, the third one was charging an even more powerful beam attack. Thinking that it would destroy the humans, the third wolf fired the attack. Yet, nothing came out of it. The beam disappeared; shocking the three wolves momentarily.

This was all the distraction both Sol and Alice needed in order to finally land a strike. Wounding the two wolves that came near them - still unsuccessful in killing them with one strike as, the creatures were able to dodge.

However, Sol and Alice were far from finished. Sol threw his sword at Alice. The same Void sword which he was using. Upon holding it, Alice transferred her first skill's enchantment to the weapon, making it even more powerful and, as she did, the weapon changed into a gigantic claymore. Coated in the same obsidian black color.

She then continued stepping on footholds casted by Solomon. Making her movements in the air accurate.

The third wolf tried stopping Alice but, Sol used [Reverse Analysis] again. Stopping the beam from being fired. With this, Alice finally reached one of the wounded wolves. Making one full swing that tore the creature in two.

The remaining wolves were just a bout to move away bu,t Sol poured all his remaining mana on casting his [Gravity Pull] again. Sticking the monsters close together while, a faint amount of Void was left on the sword held by Alice. Slowly dying out.

Yet this was not a cause for concern as Alice was finally at the top of the wolves. With the gravity pulling her in, her speed and momentum both increased as she made another vertical swing. Using all the strength in her body. Cutting not only the wolves in half but also, the wall which was nearby.

"That was a bit more than I expected." Alice said through rugged breaths.

"Tell me about it. I'm out of mana right now." Sol said in reply while Alice shared the same sentiment.

With both of them exhausted, they finally laid on the ground. Gazing at the night sky, with the moon directly above them.

"Nobody wins huh." Alice declared.

"Yup, you accepted the truce after all." Sol reminded.

"Too bad. And here I thought I could cough out all your money."

"Wait, so you were really planning on sucking my pockets dry?"

"Yeeep."

It was silent and calm all of a sudden. Besides the fact that there were fifty three wolf corpses around them, the two didn't mind. In fact, with all the stillness that suddenly came, both of them were able to think of other matters. About the things that would come after they finish their mission.

"So, we're going back to the domain after a few weeks." Alice said, with the change in her tone being noticed by Sol.

"You don't sound that happy about it. Did Rick's words get to you?" The boy asked.

"Of course it didn't. All I'm saying is that, we really have come a long way huh."

"Tell me about it."

The two were simply waiting for their mana to be restored at that point. They couldn't head back to base without it because, if they chanced upon a monster, they wouldn't have a way to fend for themselves. That's the reason why they were still laying idly on the grass and gazing at the sky.

"What are we supposed to do after this through?" Alice asked, sounding distant.

"I'm not sure. Aren't you supposed to take revenge on your family or something?"

"Yeah well, I'm sure they're dying to get me back to the household now right? But I don't think I care that much about it anymore. Being out here in the open field, freely doing what I want, I think this is the freedom I was actually searching for." Alice said, speaking genuinely from her heart.

"Don't tell me you plan on being a nomad." Sol teased,

"Of course not! What do you take me for? There's not a single edible food outside the domains and, I'd be missing the comfort of my bed too."

"We've really started getting used to comfort huh."

"Well not that they made us taste it that long. King Jubilee sent us out after just a few months after all."

The two began laughing. Thinking how they were basically torturing themselves by following King Jubilee. But it wasn't like they were complaining. After all, it was for the greater good of everyone.

"Still, I hope we get to do this a while longer." Alice continued.

"Same here. But, for now, we still have the mission to finish." Sol said, finally standing up and offering his hand to Alice.

"You think the other monsters would be able to put up a fight?" She asked, grabbing on to Sol's hand.

"I hope so. This wouldn't be much of a mission if it wasn't a challenge." Solomon said, with the commander and his vice finally walking back to base.
