A random pokemon journey

First time for everything

First time for everything

Looking at my status again I see that this skill was also at "novice" and shrugged since I honestly didn't see me needing this skill very much. Unlike the common language skill that was likely to be crucial to living in this world cleaning didn't really seem like a vital skill to my survival. Not to say I wasn't happy to have the skill since I am pretty sure I can't have too many skills and every little bit helps. Surprisingly I noticed a change to my race as well as some of my stats on my status screen.-

My race had changed to Human-bonded and my strength , agility and aura had increased by two whole points. I of course asked the system about this and was surprised to learn that this was one of the perks of being a pokemon trainer. Even crazier was that the boost each bonded pokemon gave was different based on it's own traits as well as strength. Gaia's species for example usually only gave half a point as untrained Larvitars but thanks to her royal and shiny variations she gave two points. Normal non pseudo-legendries however usually only gave twenty five percent of a point.-

"GRUUU!" My stomach grumbled in hunger pulling me out of my thoughts as I noticed that I simply didn't have any food on hand. "Hey Gaia what do you normally eat?" I asked my companion since I legitimately didn't know. How could I when all I knew about pokemon diets was berries , candy and poffins from the games and that was it. Rather than go looking for berries or some other edible thing I assumed asking Gaia if she was an omnivore , carnivore or herbivore was a good idea. The answer I got was the most pokemon thing ever as she simply leaned over and took a mouthful of stone from the caves wall and chewed it up before swallowing it.-

"Well at least you don't have very high requirements." I said with a chuckle and got a deep rumble from Gaia in response like she was laughing. "Well stand up , I can't eat rocks like you and need a bodyguard while I forage for food for me." I said in my rough common getting another rumble from her as she stood up and started walking out the cave. Once out of the cave I took a good look around just like Gaia did to familiarize myself with the area.-

The trees were what the sort that I recognized from earth as pine trees that tended to cover most of the tropical south of the united states. "I would like to think we are in Hoenn at the moment from the humidity and heat as that was how the place was shown but I am not sure about that." I say out loud in common so that Gaia could also hear. She snorted through her nostrils and began sniffing the air before pointing in a direction.-

"Is there food over there?" I ask and she nods. "Lets go then." I said and she led the way in front of me in case something were to jump out at us. Something did too , a small dog looking creature with brown and tan stripes and spikey fur as well as two darker spots of fur around it's eyes and a vicious snarl. "A Zigzagoon , definitely Hoenn then. Gaia Bite!" I commanded and a ferocious look appeared on her face as she leapt forward with her mouth open and closed her jaws around the Zigzagoon's neck in a move of surprising agility before a sickening "CRUNCH!" echoed through the area.-

Gaia directly broke the things neck in an instant showing that jaws that are meant to crush rocks aren't to be underestimated. [DING! Due to your first victory you are reward 1x random skill ticket and 1x exp ticket!] The system chimed in at this point letting the realization of having given Gaia the command to end the life of another pokemon sink in. Surprisingly I didn't feel all that bad about it which was unexpected. 'Yeah , might need to work on this apathy towards death before I get Gaia involved in actual trainer battles lest she kill all her opponents.' I thought seriously.-

Speaking of Gaia she stood back up and acted like nothing happened "Lar!" she said pointing at the corpse before pointing at her mouth. "You want to eat it?" I asked surprised at the idea since there was no mention of eating pokemon in the games. I mean it made sense that there would be food chain involving them in place in a real world version so I wasn't off guard very long. Gaia shook her head and pointed at me then the corpse and finally her mouth.-

I wasn't stupid so I figured out what she meant easily enough "I can eat it?" I asked for confirmation and she nodded. "I will be honest I have no clue how to butcher or cook this thing." I said awkwardly in common. Gaia rolled her eyes at me before picking the corpse up by the head and stabbing one of her short but sharp claws into the throat of it and pulling it down hard causing the internal organs and still warm liquid blood to spill out onto the ground. She then raked her claws along the open cavity to remove anything clinging on like the heart and lungs.-

"Lar! Tar!" she then said and I could somehow instinctively know she was saying that I needed a fire now. 'Well lets see if I remember how to make a fire from all those YouTube videos.' I thought as I grabbed a bunch of dry pine needles from the ground and some sticks that looked pretty dry as well and had Gaia follow me back to the cave where I piled up the sticks and pine needles. Reaching into my jeans pocket I pull out the remnants of my zippo lighter that I always had on me for comfort.-

It was mostly destroyed just like most of my clothes but the striker still worked much to my relief. Tearing off a bit of my shirt I clicked the striker a few times before the cotton caught and I hurriedly stuffed it into the mess of pine needles and started to blow on it gently. Soon my small pile of sticks was burning as white smoke came from the fire. "Yes!" I celebrated my small victory loudly and Gaia merely rumbled at me in amusement.-

I had her rip off the skin of the corpse which she did in a brutal show of power by simply pulling it off like she was peeling an orange. I had to make a few tips to collect more pine needles and sticks as well as a log from a nearby fallen tree before using some of the sticks to hold the meat and bones over the fire at an angle like all those videos showed. The fat dripped from the meat into the fire below sending up a heavy meat smell that had my stomach rumbling loudly. Once I thought that the meat on one side was done I carefully flipped over my cooking food and allowed the other to cook.
