Chapter 250 - 250 Ch. 250 Anxia’s Suspicion
250 Ch. 250 Anxia’s Suspicion
“Elliot may have turned me down, but I let him consider my offer. You can’t force him to stay here if he ever changes his mind. Am I right?”
Loraine hid the tense muscles in her face and was sure she had hidden them well. She even managed to flash a soft smile toward her daughter.
“Of course. I will not keep him here if he wishes to follow you.”
Even though her smile seemed genuine, Anxia could still see the distaste in the older woman’s eyes.
This woman was terrified that she would lose Elliot. Anxia snorted sarcastically, inwardly realizing that this old lady didn’t genuinely love Elliot.
“Then let’s get Elliot over here,” Anxia suggested while waving her hand, and not long after, a male came to their table.
Loraine could barely hide her shocked eyes at the manservant’s face.
What is Deke Shu’s right-hand man doing here?
“Yes, miss?”
.....
“Please get Elliot over here.”
“Yes.”
Loraine glanced at the man’s back with a complicated look, then glanced at Anxia, who was leisurely sipping her tea again.
“Xiao Xia, who is that person? How did you meet him?”
“Oh? Isn’t he your helper? While walking yesterday afternoon, he encountered me and offered to be my attendant. I thought it was you who told him to do so. Am I wrong?”
Loraine bit her lip without answering her daughter’s question.
What Anxia said was not wholly a lie. The man had met her suddenly when she had finished picking up Loraine Shu’s and Jamie’s combs. She didn’t tell Loraine that the man had come because his master had sent him.
Anxia didn’t know who controlled Loraine Shu from behind, giving her the authority to hold everything in this mansion and island. Suddenly, a man approached her and told her that Deke Shu had sent her to aid her with anything she needed. And the one who sent that man was none other than Deke Shu!
Anxia never knew her birth mother’s lineage, considering she lived with the family from the father’s side. As long as she could remember, her mother was an orphan, and she never imagined that her grandfather from her mother’s side was one of the leaders of the Hong Kong triad. Did that mean her grandfather also knew that she was captured by master Yu?
Whether the older man knew or not, Anxia was used to being alone and suffered harsh, merciless training. She believed no one would care about her until she met Richard and the Calvins. Now the older man suddenly cared about her and gave one of his confidants to serve her—she couldn’t help but suspect that Deke Shu had ulterior motives.
Jamie was the only person she could trust in this place because she thought the mute woman was her mother. However, she couldn’t understand how Jamie was her mother with a different face. Loraine Shu was her mother, undoubtedly, thanks to the photo that woman gave her, and her mother could talk very well.
Strangely… Loraine Shu’s behavior was not at all like the mother she remembered. Not to mention, Anxia couldn’t feel the warmth when her mother hugged her. Instead, she felt indescribable a warm hug and received a motherly look from Jamie. Although Anxia didn’t like the mute woman by her father’s side in the first place, her heart gradually melted with the woman’s sincerity and patience.
Jamie didn’t even feel angry or irritated with her, even when Anxia gave giving the cold shoulder. The woman’s gesture was the same as a mother who never remembers her daughter’s mistakes and forgives her child right then and there.
And the only thing that made Anxia sure that Jamie was her mother… was how Jamie hugged and patted her on the back.
In this world, only her mother hugged her by patting her upper back thrice and stroking her down. Then Anxia tested it by asking what the meaning of a house was.
The woman’s answer was very similar to what she remembered.
‘What is the meaning of a house? The important thing is there is papa, mama, and you. It doesn’t matter where we live; as long as we don’t separate, the place we will settle is our home.’
That was her mother’s answer when Anxia asked her why they had to move house.
While the answer given by Jamie through Elliot’s translation is like this, ‘Home can be anywhere as long as we are not separated and live together with the people we love.’ It was similar to her mother’s and contradicted Loraine Shu’s answer.
Is it true that Jamie is her mother? But since when did her mother become mute? Not to mention, she was confident that her mother’s name was Loraine Shu instead of Jamie. Even if she couldn’t remember her parents’ faces, she still remembered their names. Thus, Anxia decided to check their DNA.
If Jamie was her mother, maybe they had a face-off operation where they swapped faces, considering their figure and height were not much different. Nonetheless, a thousand other questions popped into her head if that was the case.
Why did her mother become mute? Why would her mother be willing to be bullied by a woman like the fake Loraine Shu? Did her mother know that the woman had taken her identity by force, or was there an agreement between them?
Anxia could only ask all these things after the results of their DNA test came out, and they were sure that Jamie was indeed her mother.
Even though Anxia’s mind was filled with the thought that Jamie was her mother, her senses and vigilance did not drop, and she watched Loraine Shu’s expression that seemed displeased with the presence of one of Deke Shu’s confidants.
It seems… Deke Shu was the primary key to knowing what happened to her birth mother.
After this, Anxia would try to find a way to meet the older man and find out why the man was helping her and making Elliot his sole heir.
