Volume 6.5 Chapter 76: Naivety Part 1/2

A small Scarlet wandered around the castle. She had always been quite the rambunctious demon. If a person said to go left, the girl would go right. If she needed to go down, she would go up. Everything would be the opposite.

"Hmpf!" And this was one of those times. Scarlet was running outside in the garden without a care in the world. But when she did that, a person beside her sighed, "Princess, you can't run away from your studies." It was time for her lessons, yet this girl had escaped from the room.

"Don't want to. Those people are so mean!" Scarlet pouted.

"Princess, you can't behave like this. It's all for your own good." The maid tried to reason. They were so hard on the girl because of her talent. They had never seen such a talent like this before.

"I don't want to listen to any of them!" Scarlet hugged the maid's legs, "Selk, can't we go out and play?"

Selk's expression twisted when she saw that. This is so unfair. That angelic expression!

Another sigh soon came out of her mouth, "Fine. But we can only go out for 1 hour. The guards would worry if you're gone for too long."

"Yay! Selk, you're the best!" Selk had always been by her side since her childhood. She was her best friend, a maid, and a 2nd mother figure. She would scold her lightly, treat her kindly, and comfort her.

The two had gone out through a secret passage and into the kingdom.

"Remember to wear this, Princess." Selk covered the child with a cloth. Her appearance was too noticeable.

"Let's go get something to eat!" Scarlet quickly dashed off, and Selk promptly chased after her. The two had gotten some bread to eat. As the two ate, Scarlet and Selk looked at the stalls around. It was filled with different types of jewelry and other assortments.

"Princess, we should head back." The two had been walking around for quite some time. It wouldn't be long before the guards became wary.

"Wahh? Five more minutes?"

"Your parents will be worried."

"But-" Before the two could leave, a thud sound came! That sound caused the two to turn their heads. What they saw was a person on the ground. Scarlet tilted her head, "Are you alright?"

From how hard this person fell, it would definitely cause some damage.

"I'm fine. Sorry about that." The person got up from the ground calmly. But when he did, the robe covering his head also fell. Selk's expression dropped,

"Why is a human here?" Without hesitation, she got in front of Scarlet, ready to protect her. Scarlet, on the other hand, was curiously staring at the human. This was the first time she had seen one.

The human quickly waved his hand, "I'm not here to cause trouble! I'm just a wandering merchant trying to sell some things!"

"A merchant?" Scarlet tilted her head when she heard that. The merchant nodded as he explained, "My name is Fritz. I come from the human nation to sell these trinkets." He waved his hand, and some unique orbs came out.

"What are these?"

"Are you interested, Miss?!" Fritz smirked, "These orbs are popular in the human kingdom. They're ornaments with special designs."

"How much for one of them?"

"For you, 3 silver coins."

"That expensive?" Selk sneered. Was he trying to rob them? There was no way this was three silver coins.

"Beautiful miss, to get to the capital of the demon kingdom, I have to go through so many hurdles."

"Here!" Scarlet didn't hesitate to hand the coins to the person. When she did, Selk's expression dropped while Fritz brightened.

"Thank you so much, young miss."

"Also, I want to hear some stories."

"Hmm?"

"I want to know more about the outside world." That was something Scarlet had longed for. She didn't know much about what was happening besides the demon world. And she hated that.

"Sure. I can tell you all about the things happening in the outside world." Fritz didn't mind at all as he bowed. She made a friend on that day, but only endless regret remained.

"Mr. Fritz!" Scarlet called out to the merchant. Fritz was on the side of the street, continuing to sell off his items. Seeing the demon girl, Fritz waved his hand, "Hello, Little Miss."

"What do you have for today?" Scarlet questioned. Fritz grinned as he took something out, "Naturally, I have brought something interesting for you." What he took out caused Scarlet and Selk to tilt their heads.

"Is this a compass?" Scarlet asked, her eyes narrowing in on the peculiar device. It was unlike any compass she had ever seen, with a unique gemstone at its center.

"Mmhmm! This compass had a special gemstone acting as a guide. This was something I have gotten in aquatic regions. This was used to guide sailors through the seas."

"Oooh! How much?!"

"It will be 5 silver coins."

"Sure!" Scarlet handed the coins over to the man. She stared at the compass in marvel. But she quickly turned to Fritz, "Now, will you tell me stories about your adventurers?"

"Of course, Little Miss. Now then, where did we leave off?" Fritz thought about it and began to tell his story. As he did, Scarlet listened to what he said. This had become a usual thing. Scarlet would skip out on her lesson to come here. It was a deal; she would buy something from him, and he would tell her stories about his adventures.

"And we have come to the end." Fritz took a deep sigh as he clapped his hand. He had finished his story.

"Aww, but isn't there more?" Scarlet wanted to hear more stories about the other kingdom. Selk frowned as she stared at the man.

"Someone stole from me!"

The three quickly turned their heads to see a demon running away. Scarlet frowned and turned to Selk, "Selk."

"But Miss." Her job was to protect her, not deal with things like this. But Scarlet shook her head, "I'm going to stay here. Go and deal with that."

"...Alright." Selk glared at Fritz before she dashed off to deal with the robber. It was going to be quick and swift.

"Little Miss, you should be more wary." Fritz shook his head as he warned the girl. But Scarlet shook her head, "It's fine. And besides, I trust you." The two had talked so much that she grew to trust this person.

"Hearing you say that is great enough." Fritz smiled.

"In the future, I'm going to meet more humans and make friends with them!" Scarlet grinned. If this human was this fun, what would others be like?

"..." Fritz didn't say anything.

"I'm back, Miss." Selk returned to them. It was an easy capture for the likes of her.

"We'll leave now." Scarlet waved her hand as she moved away from there. Fritz nodded as he returned to his work.

"Young Miss, why are you smiling like that?" As the two walked, Selk noticed her expression.

"I have a goal now." Scarlet grinned.

"What goal is that?"

"I want to cooperate with the other races and make friends!" Why stop with humans? There were going to be so many more.

"I see. That's a wonderful idea." Selk smiled when she heard that. But she added, "But you have to be careful too."

"I don't have to worry about it." Scarlet grinned. But what she didn't know was the start of the horror.
