Chapter 16: I’ll forgive you if you call me sister
Chapter 16
Su Mo and Sang Li returned to the guest house, just as Xiao Han and Xia Miaomiao came over looking for them.
Su Mo and Sang Li shared a room, while Xiao Han and Xia Miaomiao stayed in another room.
Seeing Xiao Han and Xia Miaomiao dressed in ancient costumes with their hair done up in buns, the two girls couldn't help but laugh.
Xia Miaomiao was wearing a pink dress that went nicely with her sweet image.
Xiao Han, on the other hand, was dressed in grayish-blue men's clothing with her hair also tied up, as she felt it was more convenient that way.
Su Mo bounced over and looked left and right at Xiao Han's hair bun, "Not bad! Did Miaomiao do your hair?"
"Who else could it be? With these clumsy hands of mine, how could I possibly do my own hair? It must have been our nimble and dexterous Miaomiao!"
"I want one too! Do mine too, Miaomiao! Please!" Su Mo said.
Xia Miaomiao looked at Su Mo's long, wavy brown hair. "Su Mo, an exotic style would suit you."
"Any style is fine! As long as I can attract ten handsome guys when I go out!"
"Su Mo, you should restrain yourself a little. Weren't ancient people very conservative? Don't scare them away." Xiao Han said with a laugh.
"Ah...it's just my nature, even death cannot change it!"
Laughing, the four girls entered the room.
Xia Miaomiao styled each of their hair into buns suited to their individual styles.
Only the rash on Sang Li's face had not completely faded, so she wore a white veil that added a touch of allure.
The four were planning to go out to gather information about this place.
Today there were many people who came to pay their respects for Old Master Bai's passing, so to avoid attention, the four girls snuck out through the back door of the rear courtyard.
Of course, Wang Fu knew they were going out and sent Fang Qing and Yi to keep an eye on them and prevent them from escaping.
But they had no plans to escape at all, mainly because they did not know where to escape to.
When Su Mo went out, she had initially wanted to bring Wu Ying along to go into town, but later felt that he needed to recuperate from his injuries, so she didn't call for him.
"Isn't the young master of the Li family looking for you all? Why are you going into town to wander around?"
Yi had been arranged to keep watch over them and was very dissatisfied. Today the Bai family was so busy, yet they were going into town to leisurely stroll around?
Su Mo went forward and patted Yi on the shoulder, "Little brother, we naturally have things to do in town. I presume the people from the Li family will also come today to pay their respects for Old Master Bai's passing, no? If not now, when else can we slip out?"
"You--" Yi immediately dodged her hand. He looked left and right, and fortunately did not see Wu Ying's figure. "Men and women should not have physical contact. Don't touch me!"
"No way. With your undeveloped look, I have no interest at all!" In Su Mo's eyes, Yi looked to be only sixteen or seventeen. Although she was promiscuous, she had no interest in underage boys.
Yi's face turned red from Su Mo's words. He humphed and turned his head, no longer speaking to Su Mo.
"Su Mo, he's still a child. Stop teasing him." Sang Li said.
"I'm not a child!"
Yi turned back and retorted angrily. His appearance was rather childish indeed.
"Pfft..."
Seeing his look, all the girls couldn't help but laugh, even the straight-faced Fang Qing beside them was holding back laughter.
"You...I can't be bothered to talk to you all!" Yi was so angry he immediately strode ahead of them.
"Little brother, don't be angry! Sister will buy you candy to eat!" Su Mo said laughingly as she chased after him.
...
On the main street,
Su Mo kept her word and bought Yi several large candied haws on sticks.
Yi was so angry his teeth were grinding. "I told you, I'm not a child!"
Su Mo was not angry either. She smiled brightly at him, "Yes, yes, you're not a child. Who said only children can eat candied haws? Here, they're very sweet! Look, I'm eating them too."
Seeing Su Mo's smile, so dazzling in the sunlight, Yi was momentarily entranced.
Although he was the butler's son, he was still a servant in the Bai family. Since he was little, his father had taught him to be loyal to the young master. When he had reached the age for eating candied haws, he had never eaten any before.
"Hey, if you don't eat them soon, the sugar on top will melt!" Su Mo said, "If you're too embarrassed, just eat them here and we'll go catch up with the girls later! Looks like they still have a lot to pick over there!"
Yi looked at her for a moment before finally accepting the candied haws. Somewhat awkwardly, he said, "Thank you..."
Su Mo's lips curved into a smile. Their purpose today for going out was distributed by Sang Li after all.
"You're welcome. As long as you don't call me an unvirtuous woman ever again!"
Yi was somewhat embarrassed. "Earlier...I misunderstood. I'm sorry."
"Then call me sister, and I'll forgive you!" Su Mo raised an eyebrow at him.
"..." Yi bit into a candied haw and lowered his head slightly. "I'm a servant of the Bai family. Do you want to be a servant's sister?"
"What's wrong with that? In my eyes, everyone is equal. You're not a servant in the Bai family, just an employee working for them!"
Yi looked at her doubtfully. "What is an employee?"
"Oh, anyway...you're just like a little brother to me!"
In her original world, Su Mo was also considered a rich heiress. She also had a younger brother, just a little older than Yi.
Yi did not speak. No one had ever said anything like this to him before. Even the Bai family's young master still treated him like a servant.
"How long have you been at the Bai family?" Su Mo suddenly asked.
Yi's thoughts returned and he answered, "Since I was born, I've been a servant there, always by the young master's side."
"Then...do you know what kind of person Old Master Bai was?"
Yi looked at Su Mo. "So you bought me candied haws because you wanted to ask about the Bai family's affairs?"
Su Mo was surprised. So smart at such a young age?
She ruffled Yi's hair. She did not hide the facts, since she was not very good at lying anyway. "Is your little brain that clever?"
Yi dodged her hand, looking a little resentfully at her. "I told you, no physical contact between men and women!"
"It's fine if you treat me as a sister!"
"..."
"I really have no ill intentions. I just want to catch Old Master Bai's murderer as soon as possible. Just tell me about him, okay? Whatever you want, I'll buy it for you!"
Such a blatant bribe was the first time he had seen. She really needed to restrain herself more!
"Little brother, alright?" Su Mo blinked at him.
Seeing her bat her eyelashes, Yi's heart seemed to skip a beat and he quickly averted his eyes.
"Wha-what do you want to know?" He even started to stutter.
Su Mo was delighted and immediately asked him about the Bai family's affairs according to what Sang Li had told her.
After listening to Yi's account, Su Mo couldn't help but sigh, "It's so complicated. Wait, I'm having some trouble remembering."
Su Mo took out her phone from her waist. She opened up her notes app.
Yi looked at this strange object and couldn't help but ask, "What is this thing?"
"Oh, this is a cell phone! Very amazing!" Su Mo said with a smile. Then she turned on the camera and casually took a selfie with Yi next to her.
"See, isn't it much better than your painters here?"
Yi looked at the image in shock. "This...this is too incredible!"
