Chapter 168: Childhood-8
Chapter 168: Childhood-8
"But what did I get in return? Aside from treating me a little better than the rest, what have you ever done for me? I bet you will not even know my birthday. Did you?" Severus looked at Maverick, but he was met with the same lost expression.
"You always thought your life was messy and unfair. You thought you were cursed and pitied on yourself but didn't wanted anyone else to pity on you. Your health, your curse, and your pain were the only thing you ever saw. I don't know why you befriended me, but I guess it was nothing more than sympathy. You saw a boy, more pitiful than you, more outcast than you, and more cursed than you so you felt a connection with me. You were the only one able to understand the pain that I was always undergoing. You were the one who had the ability to understand my struggle and I am honored that in dire times you helped me. I cannot be all selfish and just go all out on you. You know what, I did understand your torment and helplessness that you always felt, and I did my best to help you out. I don't know whether you ever saw through my efforts, but I did. I did a lot. I tried my hardest to never outshine you. Have you ever thought about how I felt? Even after being capable, I can't do things. I always had to sit back and wait for you, but I never cared. Those things that everyone aspired to, were equivalent to dust in my eyes. Having seen you struggling so hard, I knew that it was not something I wanted however, even after giving up on so many things, even after sacrificing everything I have, you all expected me to do more. You all wanted me to just die bearing sufferings for all of you. Haven't you?" He again looked at Maverick but sighed.
Why was he seeking his confirmation?
It was not like it was a lie.
Maybe some part of Severus was still reluctant to believe but no matter how reluctant he was, the truth was standing before his eyes and he didn't have enough power to still deny it.
"Later as Melanie came, you were lovestruck with her and it was okay. Just like you, I too got attached to her but when I got to know about your feelings, I stepped away, even without trying. I swear, I never crossed any line with her nor ever tried manipulating her feelings for you. I just accepted it but what did you do? You knew Melanie had feelings for me. I was not expecting you to back off, but it was true, that I was also not expecting you to kill me. Maverick, the day Melanie stabbed me I didn't die because of her stab but I died because of the betrayal that was given by you and her. Even if you never actually saw me as your sworn brother, even if you never saw me as your friend, how can you be so merciless to ignore our childhood bond? That night when I was stabbed by her you saw it and even came to rescue me but in reality, you just deepened my wound. If you wanted, you could have saved me, but you didn't. You knew about everything Maverick. You knew it from the starting. You knew what Marquis was trying to do since a long time ago. Didn't you?"
Severus really went all out this time. All the pent-up anger and frustration which he was bottling up from a long time ago was now coming out. As he finished speaking, he stared at Maverick for answers. Before doing anything, he wanted to have answers, or else his heart would always remain restless.
Maverick silently heard all accusations. Every single word that Severus mentioned was true and with every accusation, his heart was being stabbed. He knew it was futile, but he needed to explain his side to or else, even after death, he would have regrets.
Without looking up Maverick continued.
"I know it's useless and most probably you won't hesitate, but I still need to say this. You are right. I knew it. I GOD DAMN KNEW IT!"
"From the start, I was aware of my filthy father's plan. I knew all about my mother's death and your mother's death. I always knew the reason why Resen was turned to ashes. Since a long time ago."
Ha!
Mavericks slowly stood up as a malicious grin plastered on his handsome face.
"When I was just 10 years old, I mistakenly went to my father's study and by chance stumbled inside a room. It was a dark and empty room with blood painted on its walls. It was so terrifying that I nearly peed in my pants. I saw women there, being mercilessly sliced after they were assaulted by my filthy father. Want me to tell you a secret?" Maverick kept his fingers on her lips as he made a secret gesture.
He intentionally lowered his voice to say, "My dear father went impotent after my birth."
Severus was shocked to see core when he heard what Maverick said. An electric current ran through his body. To think that the king of such a huge empire would be impotent was just a weird imagination. Everyone knew how powerful as a king Marquis was but then again this has nothing to do with power. To think that one of the manliest men in the kingdom was impotent. Severus quietly did not know how to react.
HAHAHAHAHA!
"What's with that weird face? Do you think I am lying? Oh no no I am not".
HAHAHAH
He laughed continuously.
In a span of a moment, Maverick swiftly picked up his word as he pointed it toward Severus and said, "I am not joking" He was utterly serious.
"I know you are wondering how he can assault women if he doesn't have his own gun, but you can sully women even without a gun."
"..."
Severus did not comment on it.
Of Course, he knew it.
A woman's soul was just like a water bubble. It shined bright and beautiful until it was inside the water, but it burst out when we tried to touch it by force. Even a touch can be counted as assault if it is not consensual.
"You should have known it after my father refused to take in a woman and freed the woman inside his harem. For the sake of his own image, he became a lovely husband who was gravely grieved over the death of his beloved wife, but it was just a facade. Numerous women who were freed were ultimately met with a bad end. They either were kidnapped or murdered. No one noticed it but I did because I saw souvenirs of every one of them. I heard Marquis saying that he was affected by a rare curse that can only be given by gods. His impotence was due to it and no one else Hades has the reason to make him impotent. I don't know why but he did it for the reasons you should ask your dead mother or your father" Maverick slyly chuckled.
"Well back to the topic. Since childhood I had a good memory so when I was inside the room, I saw Marquis carrying a briefcase with him. At first, he would torture the woman to his heart content and he would take off their hairclip and would just throw it inside his briefcase. Same thing happened that day. He assaulted the woman he brought with him, snatched the hair clip, and then slowly sliced her off. As he did, a sinister expression graced his face. No remorse, no trace of humanity could be seen on his face, in fact, a very satisfied smile always retained his face whenever he was torturing the woman. A bloody sadist he was. I do not know but I saw something odd there. Earlier I thought maybe Marquis was just a madman who loved to call 'Cynthia' whenever he was doing something sexual with them and would scream my mother's name when he was peeling the corpse. I will be honest, it was utterly disgusting to witness. I was lucky that Marquis failed to notice my presence inside the room. I felt like someone was protecting me, but it was just my wild imagination. In the end, I managed to get out of that cursed room. For several days I was traumatized and even went down with a fever because of the scar. Some years later when Melanie came to our palace, I was very happy and had so many questions to ask my father. I could barely keep my curiosity so I ran to his study to question him but sadly all my curiosities were answered before I could even ask. There I saw that little girl who stole my heart and the one who I used to call father. That was the day where my innocence crumbled as it was the first time, I experienced how cruel this world was, How shallow people and their emotions were. In this world where power and money are important, emotions like love, care, and happiness are nothing but good talks. No matter how good and right it sounds people will never do it if it doesn't benefit them."
