Chapter 9: Resolve
Chapter 9: Resolve
I utilized every single piece of Ki I had, spreading it through every muscle fiber in my legs. I didn't have to worry about out pacing the team considering they specialized it pure blitzkrieg rescues.
Orders were given out by Harry constantly telling the sharpshooters in front of us where to fire. Although we didn't know if they were a threat or not, they still had to be eliminated. It seemed they did not want to take the risk of letting a potential threat cause any harm.
I knew it would be like this considering they committed many war crimes today. It seemed they wanted to simply end this war and leave with a victory no matter the consequences.
"BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT"
"TRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT"
Hearing the sounds of the reapers once again, I decided to ask in a loud tone of voice how far out we were from the extraction point, since we've been moving along the path for about 10 minutes now at a considerable pace.
"Harry how far out are we from the extraction point!" I said in a loud tone since the sounds of the Volestian's aircrafts were reeking havick extremely close by.
"At the speed we're going at I believe three minutes till we actually exit the city, but 25 minutes to actually reach the extraction point!" yelled out Harry.
'Fuck, that long even at this pace? I don't think I will be able to move after seven minutes.' I thought to myself thinking of my current condition being complete garbage. The pain just kept increasing which each step, but I couldn't allow myself to be dead weight even if this is a rescue for me.
"Will the path to the extraction point be a straightaway when we exit the city at least!?" I said with desperation in my voice since if it was a straightaway, I had a plan to make it possible even in my current state.
"No, the path will involve many turns just like right now, many paths have landmines scattered across them! 350 FEET NORTHEAST ON FOOT!!" Screamed out harry as he not only squashed what little hope I had, but also gave the position of a potential threat which followed with shots being fired.
"ELIMINATED!" Screamed out Harry confirming the operators kill.
'Fuck my life what the hell am I supposed to do now? I can't keep this up its simply impossible. Should I just tell them the truth? But what if they abandon me like the others? SHIT I CAN'T DECIDE!' I was overthinking the situation, going over every single detail and possibility that can happen good and bad.
My speed had decreased since my concentration was starting to crack and break apart. The squad noticed this and adapted in a split second, which made me feel like complete shit since this was a bad possibility.
I couldn't help thinking things over in obsessive detail since it's what I've been doing my entire life. I have always been more of a observing type rather than simply throwing myself into the problem and doing whatever I feel like doing.
I needed to think things through, so I don't end up doing something I regret for the rest of my life.
"Azrail are you still able to go or not? It's okay if you can't, one of my men can carry you the rest of the way you have already pushed yourself enough!" Said the captain with a tone I didn't seem to understand.
'Shit now I'm breaking their focus making them focus on me rather than themselves. Just how selfish can I fucking be... Screw this, if the afterlife want's me that damn badly than let it come, but I will not allow these men to die alongside me.' I told myself strengthening my resolve to get as close to the exaction point that I possibly could.
POV: Captain of the rescue squad
'How is this kid managing to run at such a fast pace like this while injured? Just what is his pain tolerance? What has he gone through to achieve such a mentally strong fortitude?' These questions ran through my head while I was running.
In the first place we only expected to him to walk only to the outside of the city. Once we exit the city, I simply planned for someone to carry him, yet here we are sprinting with enhanced Ki making us dart across the paths.
'We are making great time, but his condition has to give out at some point, those fatal wounds he has are no joke.' As I thought this, I felt his Ki start to get disrupted, we slowed down our pace to match his. It's still a sprint, but not as fast as before.
"Azrail are you still able to go or not? It's okay if you can't one of my men can carry you the rest of the way you have already pushed yourself enough!" I said, my voice filled with worry.
After I said this there was not response even after a minute making my worry grow more.
As I was about to tell him to stop and have us take a quick break since we were ahead of schedule I felt electric mana circulate inside and out his body. Astonishment was written all over my face as I couldn't believe what he was going to attempt.
We all felt his mana and decided to start using more Ki to match this speed, we all had large amounts of it so we could match his movement even with the electrical enhancement.
Harry told us the rest of the directions to exit the city in one breathe. After he finished that breathe Electrical wires started to dance around Azrail's body making even his hair stand up dancing alongside the wires.
The next moment Azrail vanished from his position, moving at the speed of lighting through the directions told by Harry. We too vanished from our positions keeping the formation solid making sure no cracks were left.
Charlie probably saw our trackers on his map moving at an absurd pace. I assume the air assault is about to become much more violent since we will be passing through multiple sectors in a quick rate.
I did not know how long this form of his was going to last with such a tattered body, but our medic took a spot right behind the boy. He was watching him like a hawk ready to take matters into his own hands if he pushed himself too far.
'My oh my aren't you such a softie, seems like he's taken a liking to the kid in a short amount of time. ' I thought to myself while looking at my medic, he looked like a father seeing his daughter's boyfriend.
