The Tycoon's Odyssey

Chapter 207: 207:Getting The Superhuman Serum

Mac barked orders to his squad. "Secure the area and start analyzing and scanning every inch of this place. We need to know if there are any more traps or hidden exits."

The team immediately sprang into action, searching the corridor and surrounding rooms.

What had once been a chaotic battleground now lay eerily silent, broken only by the hum of the suit's cooling systems and the occasional beeps of scanning equipment.

As Mac followed the team's progress, a voice crackled through his comm.

[Tend to the injured and secure the enemy you shot down. Those who are still alive are to be taken according to the plan.]

[Arjun has escaped.]

"What! How?" Mac screamed, his voice filled with raw anger and frustration. It was the first time he had shown such visible agitation.

[He escaped even before you all even got in. He took a hidden exit. The opening on the other side and data on the passage hadn't been kept in the computer logs. Only a fool would do that.]

[I only found it after picking up a signal a mile away."

"I see…" Mac growled.

The comms crackled with static before another update came through. "We're still searching the area. We'll find out more soon."

Mac's frustration mounted as he moved deeper into the facility.

The interior resembled a grim dungeon, with flickering lights casting long shadows on the walls. The corridor was lined with grotesque corpses scattered around, proof that several deaths had taken place with their necks twisted at unnatural angles.

The air was thick with the stench of death and the metallic tang of blood.

As the squad continued their search, they stumbled upon a series of chilling rooms. One of the squad members, their voice trembling, reported, "We've found what looks like a torture chamber. There are chains, restraints, and… and bloodstains everywhere."

Another added, "There are also signs of recent activity. We're seeing fresh scratches on the walls as if something or someone was dragged through here."

The team's conversations were punctuated by muffled screams and the occasional clatter of metal. The discovery of the torture chambers sent shivers through the squad and the dim lighting, and eerie atmosphere only heightened the sense of dread as they continued to investigate through the rooms.

In the midst of the investigation, Mac's thoughts drifted to a memory, an unsettling recollection from his past.

He had been selected for super-soldier augmentation as part of a covert program. Only those who had survived rigorous commando training before undergoing a series of grueling tests designed to push their endurance and vitality to the limit were chosen as candidates for this program.

The enhancement process was brutal.

Survivors of the commando training were subjected to a series of torturous procedures meant to test their physical and mental resilience.

And even from them, only those who endured these trials and survived were eligible for the next stage of gene enhancement. The process involved the administration of a serum designed to alter human physiology, a mutation that granted superhuman abilities. However, the success rate was grim. Only two out of every hundred candidates selected would emerge successfully and survive the procedure.

This was because the gene enhancement serum worked by modifying the subject's DNA, integrating new genes that enhanced physical strength, agility, and sensory perception. The transformation also altered the individual's metabolism and physical resilience, allowing them to recover from injuries at an accelerated rate.

This caused the process to be fraught with risks, and many candidates experienced severe side effects or failed to survive the transformation.

As the memory faded, Mac returned to the present. His squad had discovered a secure storage room filled with vials of the enhancement serum, each one suspended in a nitrogen-cooled container. The vials, sleek and glassy, were stored meticulously, their contents shimmering with an eerie, faint blue glow.

The sight of these vials was a grim reminder of the dark science behind the superhuman enhancements.

"Secure these vials," Mac ordered, his voice steady despite the storm of emotions swirling within him. "We need to make sure that each one gets to the boss intact."

As the squad carefully transported the vials to a secure area for further analysis, Mac continued to survey the facility.

Evan leaned over the control panel in the VR world, his eyes scanning the screens before him—each displaying various live feeds from the ongoing operation—absorbing the chaotic scenes unfolding in the facility. The steady hum of machinery and the occasional beeps of the alerts filled the room with a tense, mechanical rhythm.

Standing beside him, Aurora fixed her gaze on the data streaming across her terminal. Her posture was rigid, her expression serious as she processed the incoming information.

Evan's gaze remained fixed on the central screen that displayed Mac and his squad's progress. The images of the facility which was now a graveyard of twisted bodies and flickering lights, filled him with a cold unease.

"How many casualties?" Evan asked, his voice calm but edged with an undercurrent of concern.

[Eight so far, Sir,] Aurora replied, her eyes still focused on her screen.

Evan's brow furrowed, his face tightening with frustration. He clenched his fist tightly, the muscles in his arm tensing visibly as he processed the number.

The weight of the losses felt quite painful. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath to steady his emotions.

Aurora observed Evan's reaction with a mixture of sympathy and professional detachment. She knew how deeply the losses affected him, even though he rarely showed it. She remained silent, giving him a moment of solitude to gather himself.

When Evan finally opened his eyes again, they were cold and resolute. He straightened up and shook off the momentary lapse in his composure. "We can't afford any more losses," he said, his voice now hardened with determination.

"Aurora, have you collected all the data from the fight?"

[Yes!]

"Then start preparing a combat suit that can help us to take on superhumans. Experiment with every metal and alloy present in this world and if they don't work, create new ones."

"I need the advanced version," Evan's voice was chilling, resolute.

Aurora nodded as she updated the mission parameters.

[Understood. I'll ensure that all resources are redirected to assist the team.]

As they continued monitoring the operation, the screens reflected the grim reality of the situation. The mission was fraught with peril, and the toll it was taking on both the squad and the overarching plan was becoming increasingly evident.

Evan's gaze hardened as he watched Mac's team push through the facility's dangers. The stakes had never been higher, and he knew that every decision made from this point forward would be critical to the success of their objectives and the safety of their operatives.
