Vol. 11 - Chapter 530 - Sedan vs Gou! Assailants and Starkeus’s Trap!
—The confrontation between the two classes began. On one side were 18 members of Class-2, and holding their citadel were the 29 members of Class-24.
A shower of magic spells descended upon the Class-2, but the leading vanguard members—tanks shrugged them off as they continued their march amidst that. Soon, the Class-2 had made contact with the enemy's tank.
"Do not let them pass! «Armored Rock»!"
"Push them away! «Ultimate Fist Strike»!"
The enemy tank propped the two-handed shield, and intoned the defensive skill «Armored Rock»—which, as its name suggests, make them immovable and raise their guard like rock—and Sedan responded with a single yet powerful punch. The punch, really living up to its name 'ultimate,' stuck the shield straight.
When it came to shields, they had their own ranking—small shields, huge shields, and two-handed shields. In one-handed equipment range, the huge shields were the peak, but a two-handed shield boosted the defense status explosively—a buff for them in exchange for the lack of weapon when both hands are occupied. So, amongst all the present shield categories, the two-handed were overall the strongest.
It would have been a fool's errand to directly clash against a tank with a two-handed shield, but...Sedan wasn't your typical guy as well. He was the leader of Class-2 for a reason. And so—
"Haaaaa!"
"Gaaah!? Aaaargh!"
His ultimate fist pierced through the tank's two-handed shield, pushing the tank—who should have been immovable like rock—behind. It was a stellar attack.
"Not yet, clench your teeth for you're going to take a flight! «Power Pro Ultra Knuckle»!"
"Geehhh!! T-That damned! You're trying to destroy the rank, aren't you!?!"
Sedan pursued, and hurled another, but even stronger, punch. Tank could only let itself be pushed away.
Tank was right. Sedan was trying to destroy their lineup.
When the tank had been pushed away again from second punch, and line-up had been destroyed, the four students that behind Sedan in a column formation brute force their way like a train ramming across the hurdles, literally.
Sedan, too, pushed aside Tank and together they breached the enemy line.
Starkeus, who had been watching them, flashed a grin.
"Oh, they breached the line so easily huh. But they can't be let go on. Pushed the melee fighters at the frontline. Our advantage lies in our numbers, so we ought to make best use out of it. Remember, do everything as planned."
He moved eight of their close-combatants at the frontline; nearly double of the enemy’s vanguard.
The changes in battle lines brought chaos in the square, north of Class-24's base.
Amidst the almost free-for-all battle scene, Sedan stood out conspicuously. Even when outnumbered, locked in battle against three students, he held his ground.
"Hmph! You think you can challenge us when we've been enhanced with buff!"
"You have guts...I had said so on another occasion, but that's just plain recklessness!"
The three students—A swordsman, an Axeman, and a Basher—jumped in and surrounded Sedan.
"High-ranking jobs huh. You all are strong, but... you'll need more than that to stop me. —«Magnum Knuckle»!"
"Bold words! —«Hammer Crush»! ———Whaaat!?"
Sedan twisted his waist and hurled a punch, and against it was «Hammer Crush», intending to crush their lineup. The aftermath of the collision was—Basher was blown away.
«Battle Intent»—It was a self-buff that comes with «Great Boxer». No matter how much they're buffed, their status could never surpass Sedan's with a single target, self-buff.
But, his opponents had been holders of high-ranking jobs nonetheless. Swordsman and Axeman swiftly jumped in between to protect their comrade.
"Haaa—«Paramount Punch»!!"
"Damn!! —Gaahhh, my H-HP!?"
"He's strong!"
Sedan warded off the incoming strikes, even mixing in his counterattack, breaking through the number advantage like it was a joke. He had thoroughly dominated the game.
The three combatants slipped back while re-adjusting their formation, albeit there was no stopping Sedan.
"Ugh, we can't let this go on!"
Swordsman shouted.
In that instant, lost amidst the dancing dust particles, a huge shadow creeped up to Sedan from his flank. Sedan noticed the intonation of «Skill» and immediately moved to intercept it.
"—«Tidal Punch»!"
"!! «The Punch»!"
Clang! A metallic sound echoed as the two warriors collided, the result forced both to stagger backward. The hugely built student, equipped with Knuckle equipment much like Sedan, was Gou that had been beside Starkeus until a while ago.
"!! Squad leader!"
"You aren't his opponent. I will handle him, so take care of others."
"Y-Yes, Leader. We will leave him to you then. He's not your average fighter!"
The three combatants left the place at the order of Gou. Sedan saw them leaving, but didn't take any action. He could feel through his skin—that hulkish boy in front of him was strong.
And he was right, Gou was the strongest fighter among the Class-24 students. His job, «Battle Monk», was a high-low ranking job from warrior category (High), and also was the counter-attack squad leader.
He had been watching the battle unfolding from the top of base but, after casting the buff, immediately dashed to here when he noticed the momentum of Sedan.
"I should have known, but you really intercepted that attack easily huh. And here I thought I almost got you."
"You can't be the leader without being capable of doing that at least. Don't assume I can be taken down so easily."
"Haa, I'm Gou, leader of Class-24's counter-attack squad."
"Likewise, Class-2's leader Sedan."
"Glad to have someone strong like you as an opponent. Here I come!"
"Come!"
Keeping their chit-chat short, both sides swing down their fist in the same breath.
"—«Ballistic Fist»!"
"—«Paramount Punch»!"
The barrage of their fists caused the spark to bloom in their surroundings. Their feet moved at an extreme speed, seeking out the optimal stance and distance to bring out their maximum firepower.
"«Battle Fist»!"
"«Ultimate Fist Strike»!"
Their attack offset each other's attack, leaving only the shockwaves in the aftermath. The other could only watch them from afar.
"What the hell, are they monsters!?"
"Don't try to get closer to the leader! You will just be a hindrance! Just do not drag him down!"
"Fall back, open the space!"
The other members of both classes took their distance, trying not to get caught up in that storm.
Gou and Sedan, too preoccupied in their battle, ignored the chaos around and further upped their game.
"Amazing. I didn't expect you would be able to match my movement."
"You surprised me no less! I didn't know Class-24 had a warrior of your calibre."
The two said amidst their exchange of blows. They had been sur[rised to see a warrior like them was always around. Yet, they didn't stop their stops—or not, they couldn't stop.
Neither had any defining card, so they were locked in a lengthy battle of endurance. The first one to throw the towel was—Sedan.
"(Ack, my MP. I have used too much. After going against that tank, and breaching the defense line to her, I should have expected but I have consumed too much. But Gou joined in the middle, so he still must be loaded with MP.)"
"What's the matter, Sedan? Your breathing has changed."
"Haa, this much is nothing!"
Their situation had been a reflection of the overall scenario. Class-2's onslaught as a matter of fact had come to halt.
Their momentum had been strong, bringing in a group of their size, but the opponent had been just as much stacked. Their opponent had nearly one-third more members than them, and were the possessor of high-ranking jobs undoubtedly.
They might have been capable, but the wall that was Class-24—who had the number advantage, each one enhanced with buffs, and was guided by their strategist Starkeus—was just that hard to cross. Sedan had strength, but he couldn't push everyone just by himself.
Anymore, and it would be a battle of attrition.
—It's time to retreat.
Determining whether continuing the battle anymore would be meaningless, Sedan readied to give the retreat command—but the situation suddenly took a huge turn.
It had been a healer from Class-2, standing at the tail of their group, who first noticed the change. He had casually turned out sensing something but what he saw startled him to no end.
In the north, there had been a mountain. It wasn't big, just kind of like a hill occupying four squares. He watched in aghast as the tens of students suddenly appeared out from behind the mountain and were bolting in their direction.
"Oh shit! Which class are they from!? Don't tell me they're here to take advantage of the chaos here!?"
"Crap! It would turn into a three-pronged battle at this rate!"
"Moron! We're just going to be sandwiched at this rate! We're retreating right now! —What about Sedan!?"
"He's currently locked against their squad leader!"
A chaos erupted among the Class-2 students. With the arrival of a new class from behind, they would undoubtedly receive extreme damage from both ends. Sedan's eyes peeled back in startled—and that presented a huge opening in his defense.
"I know that is startling—but, you're really underestimating me by ignoring me here. «Ballistic Fist»!!"
"!! Cra—aaaaargggg!?!"
A rain of fists fell down from Gou, a phantom of thousand hands visible behind him.
Sedan pushed his footwork and turned his fist into a cross-guard posture while hurriedly falling behind.
"You're not escaping! Haaaaa!!"
"Oh no! Support the leader!"
Gou chased after Sedan but it just happened that there had been another Class-2 member in the spot Sedan had fall behind. The class member—a boy with a warrior job jumped in to support him. But—
"Haaaa!"
"Ack! Don't get in my way! «Battle Fist»!"
"Gaaaahh!!"
The boy tried to fight back, but a single attack from Gou reaped the entirety of his default, meagre HP, and pushed him out of the game. Albeit, the sacrifice provided Sedan the chance to recover.
"Hurry up, we're retreating!"
"You aren't going anywhere, Sedan!"
Gou chased after Sedan. Sedan took out «MP Hi-Potion» and guzzled it in one breath, regaining a silver of his MP.
Gou was intent on chasing him down. There was no doubt that guy would be the roadblock in Class-2's way to escape. He was the only one who could stop him.
However—the obstruction had suddenly come from an unexpected direction.
"What the, are they ignoring the ambush team behind them?! Are they so intent on trapping us here!?"
The said obstacle were tanks of Class-24.
Having breached the defense line to almost make it to Class-24's base, the tanks had come out to intercept and entrap the sole escape route of Class-2.
The ambush team of unknown class had been making their way to her, visible from behind the tanks, yet they remained to block their path. They would surely be stuck between the two, and suffer the brunt. It wasn't that hard to figure out.
Then what're the Class-24 implying by blocking Class-2's escape route?
Just as the thought ran across Class-2's mind, they heard a loud voice—the speaker must have used a megaphone—coming from the direction of Class-24's base. The voice had been of Starkeus.
"Reveal your affiliation."
Instantly, the members of Class-24 stuck something to themselves. It was an emblem. An emblem item which had 'Class-24' written on it.
Everything suddenly clicked for the Class-2.
"!! They're in cahoots!!"
'Reveal your affiliation,' Starkeus had said. The only reason it could have been was to make sure Class-24 didn't get caught in friendly fire.
In that case, the assilaints—the Class-45 had already been in alliance with Class-24.
"The ambush is all for us! Run! Do anything but escape from this placeeeeee!!"
"Use anything to escape! Focus on surviving at any cost!"
An ambush right when Class-2's momentum had fall into stalemate, plus the pincer attack using the terrain from behind—everything was rolling on Starkeus's palm.
"There were 29 people. Then where did the last member disappear, you may wonder? Needless to say, he had been out to bring in alliance class. It was all according to the plan."
Starkeus whispered his monologue.
"Now then, it's time to play the last move. Class-2, your journey ends here."
A grin crept up to his lips as he looked over the battlefield.
