Chapter 200: Know Your Capabilities
Minister Zhang's lips thinned out in anger. As they were on the news, he had to restrain his temper. However, it was impossible not to get angry at Tong Yang.
When she didn't want the score, she stirred up drama everywhere and argued that she was cheated. Now that things were going in her favour and her brain was awake, she wanted them to end things here.
"Miss Tong, getting justice for you is our priority." Turning to the staff that was holding the previous papers, he signalled him to bring them over.
Not only that, a camera was brought to take pictures of the handwriting.
Since this was a task from President Qin, Minister Zhang was determined to do it to the end.
After the pictures were taken, he instructed them to upload it on their official page. Public opinion was also important and while the experts were called over to check, people were also comparing on their phones.
Tong Yang was already a shivering mess. She knew that there was no way out now.
Helpless, she glanced at her mom. Madame Tong was also at a loss, in front of all these dignified people, she didn't know what to say or do.
Besides, the exam had been done in front of everyone. To also push them into a corner, the questions were what they had both seen before.
They couldn't claim that Rong Yue was being favored when it was their old questions. If Tong Yang really scored full marks with those questions.
Even if Rong Yue was told the questions in advance, at least, Tong Yang should be able to meet up with more than half of the questions.
But she only managed to solve seven.
Which was even beneath average.
Like this, they didn't even have anything they could push the blame on.
The experts paired the handwritings together very quickly. As they weren't similar in any way, Rong Yue's elegant strokes were placed aside while Tong Yang's papers were also placed aside.
"Minister Zhang, we have sorted the papers based on the handwritings,"
Minister Zhang already knew what the results would be and everything else that he did was just formality.
"Miss Tong Yang, when the mistake was first discovered, we thought it was an error, we invited some experts to compare handwritings, and awarded Miss Rong Yue the marks she deserved."
"However, even when things were done like that, you didn't give up and kept wanting what didn't belong to you. Which is why we had to invite you down here."
Minister Zhang turned to his assistant and the door to the meeting room was pushed open.
Held down by two police officers, Zhou Fan was pulled into the room. Upon seeing him, Tong Yang and her mother's faces changed.
"Sister!" Zhou Fan shouted out of anger the moment he entered. He felt that he was in this amount of trouble because of his sister.
Madame Tong stiffened and turned her face away from him.
Minister Zhang's stepped forward while everyone else sat down. Rong Yue leaned back in her seat as though she was about to watch a show.
"Every student writes their names on the paper first but in this case, every single exam paper was canceled out…." Minister Zhang carefully explained to the audience watching on how it was suspicious in the first place to how they invited Zhou Fan thinking that he had done such a thing to reward his niece.
"But when we saw how Miss Tong was unwilling to accept defeat, we had to think of this solution because our team realized there was more to this matter."
"We would allow Mr Zhou Fan to tell us about his involvement in this matter."
The microphone was passed to him and his hand trembled first before he steadied it with his other hand.
"I have confessed to committing the crime of altering the student names. In the beginning, I had no idea that Rong Yue was such an hardworking student. I only thought that I was going to help my niece boost her score."
Everyone in the room was a professional. Although they had surprised looks on their faces, they didn't say anything and allowed Zhou Fan to continue talking.
"But her mother assured me that Rong Yue was someone from a humble background and didn't have anyone that could fight for her," Zhou Fan continued.
Rong Yue's brows narrowed as she glanced at the mother daughter pair. So this was what they had thought all those years back then?
They had taken and taken from her as much as they could because she had no background??
"Zhou Fan!" Madame Tong yelled out angrily trying to get him to stop talking.
Zhou Fan paid no attention to her and kept talking.
"To prove that this wasn't something I do to violate my normal work ethics, I have recordings of my conversations with Madame Tong,"
Zhou Fan turned to the policemen that nodded to the camera. One of them also pulled out a phone from his pocket.
Packed in a transparent bag, the police man pulled it out and then played the recording.
[You don't have to worry, the girl is from a wretched family, they can't fight against whatever score she gets]
[But I saw it on the news that the girl won the global championships. Won't people be waiting for her results?]
The woman scoffed as soon heard that, [everyone would be watching Tong Yang and praising her, who would remember the Rong girl by then?]
The both of them talked about some other matters and the recording ended.
By this time, even though they were professionals, most of them had anger on their faces at the disregard.
Madame Tong on the other hand had frozen over in fear. As the media representative brought the camera closer to her, she lost control and lunged at him.
"Get the camera away from here!" She yelled as she tried to snatch the camera away.
One of the policemen holding Zhou Fan down intervened very swiftly and pinned her down.
"Do you want to add assault to the crimes you have committed?"
His words was like cold water on burning coal and Madame Tong stopped resisting immediately.
"I did everything on my own free will, my Xiao Yang knows nothing about this," she added.
Since she had already been caught, Madame Tong didn't want her daughter's name to have any stain.
It was only fabrication. It was impossible that she would have any heavy sentence because of that.
Unlike Tong Yang, she didn't need to search for work or anything. So as a mother, her main goal was to protect her daughter.
But who in the audience didn't know that it was a lie?
How could a parent know the student to swap with. And then know her family situation?
Also, Tong Yang had kept insisting that she performed very well even though she was just an average student. Clearly, she had confidence in something!
But if her accomplice doesn't say anything, they also couldn't pry things out of her mouth.
Minister Zhang instructed the police to take them away from the meeting room while he sat down.
"While it is indeed challenging to get full marks, the exam answer sheets have been marked by several authoritative people in the education sector. We have also seen that Miss Rong Yue was able to answer the thirty hardest questions from the last concluded examination in a very short time,"
"This shows that she deserved the marks awarded to her as earlier decided by the marking committee…." He paused and glanced at Tong Yang that was cowering in her seat.
Her face was pale and it was easy to see how embarrassed she was from now she was angling away from the camera.
"Also, as people, we should learn to understand our capabilities. When we know very clearly what we are capable of, it would help us to focus on improving ourselves."
"Instead of seeking shortcuts for instant glory," he completed the speech and glanced at Tong Yang one more time.
As soon as he finished, Tong Yang stood up and rushed out of the meeting room. Nobody tried to stop her and the air in the room got even better without her.
"Miss Rong Yue, congratulations!" One of the professionals that were invited stood up to congratulate her.
Rong Yue stood up out of courtesy and thanked him. With him leading the way, most of them came to greet her, after all, they had read her answers and most of them could tell that this was a real genius!
She didn't answer the questions in the textbook way but answered them in a way that seemed like she was trying to even teach the reader.
In this growing time, it was indeed a little hard to find such a good student.
Also, she had once brought glory to the country. Everyone of them were happy with her and wished her well.
As for Rong Yue, the attention quickly made her brows crinkle slightly at the tip. Yet, she was unable to leave.
