Chapter 266: Utter Destruction
"I see that you still don't understand the situation you're in, Crowley. Do you think this is as simple as beating you up? No, you idiot. You're. Going to. Die." Mason replied, delivering his words as menacingly as possible.
He wanted to see Shye beg for his life before slowly torturing him to death.
As for the young woman with a blessed physique beside him, she would serve as a great toy.
"Hahahaha! Surely, you jest. Who's going to kill me? You idiotic lot? Even if you brought a hundred men as idiotic as you, none of you would be a threat to me." Shye retorted with confidence, making Mason clench his fists in frustration.
Instead of pleasure, all he derived from Shye's reaction was nothing but infuriation.
Meanwhile, Seira was having a hard time understanding what was happening.
Well, she had an inkling, however, she couldn't believe that their guildmates would try to assassinate them.
A few more moments later, reality finally sunk into her heart, prompting myriad emotions to stir out of control.
"Y-YOU!! ARE YOU REALLY GOING TO KILL SOMEONE JUST BECAUSE HE DEFEATED YOU IN A DUEL?! ARDEN! WHY ARE YOU HELPING THEM COMMIT CRIME?! I'VE MISJUDGED YOU!!" Seira exclaimed in utter rage at the unfolding events.
Truly naive.
As expected, her words reeking of inexperience were met with nothing but laughter, including Arden, the guy she considered one of her friends.
"Hahahaha! You're truly stupid, aren't you? You think I'm your friend? The only reason I've been tolerating your annoying mouth is so that I can stick my meat stick inside it to shut you up!
You should thank the Gods and Goddesses for blessing you with a fine physique, otherwise, you would be dying at exactly the same time or even earlier than this arrogant idiot." Arden snickered, scanning his filthy eyes over Seira's body, clearly desiring her.
"Y-YOU FIEND!!! DISGUSTING!! UTTERLY DISGUSTING!! I TRULY REGRET EVEN CONSIDERING YOU AS A FRIEND!!"
"Hahaha, shut your mouth, none of us here cares about what you think. If you stay quiet and obedient, we won't give you a hard time later." Mason retorted, temporarily shifting his attention to Shye promptly after. "As for you, let's see if you can still talk later once Arden beats the crap out of you. I'll make sure to listen in bliss as you beg for mercy."
"Heh, shut the hell up, we also don't care about what you think. If you stay well-behaved, I will give you a quick death." Shye replied with his recent signature condescending smile.
He already inspected this guy named Arden using appraisal and learned that the bastard was a ruby-ranked scout-class adventurer who had slightly higher agility and dexterity attributes than him, without both of his greatswords, that is.
The guy had decent stats, but if Mason expected Arden to defeat him, then he was just foolishly daydreaming.
They should have brought around six or seven guys at the same level as Arden if they truly wanted to take him down.
"Mason, can I fuck this guy up already? I'm tired of hearing his bullshit" Arden said, flashing a menacing smile towards Shye, who simply sneered at him in disdain, enabling even more anger to take over his heart.
"By all means, please do f*ck him up good."
Hearing Mason's go signal, Arden gave the other eight platinum-ranked guys a quick glance, motioning for them to start the assassination.
Knowing that shit was about to go down, Shye sternly signaled Seira to hide behind him.
She wanted to protest that she could fight as well.
However, upon seeing Shye's stern look, she knew she had to obey or he was dropping her from the party, hence, albeit worried about her boss big brother's safety, she obediently complied.
To be fair, Shye knew Seira could fight a few of these guys but killing them? He doubted Seira could do it.
It would be better for her to stay back for now and watch for her to obtain knowledge about the darker side of things.
After all, life isn't always rainbows and butterflies, quests and friendships.
Evil people were everywhere.
'A mage, an archer, four scouts, and three warriors…' Shye thought inwardly, gazing menacingly at the approaching melee attackers while recognizing the two ranged threats. 'The easiest ones to kill would be…you idiots!'
Grasping two elemental staffs, Shye aimed both toward the charging warriors.
Initially, everyone, including Mason and Seira, was taken aback and confused upon witnessing Shye's dual-wielding antics.
However, just a short while after, the assassins regained their composure.
After all, even if Shye brings out a hundred elemental staffs, in the end, he has to chant for a few seconds…right?
Wrong!
Very f*cking wrong!
Shye, the mage who speaks no gibberish, needs no chants.
Just when the small group of warriors were about to split up to make things difficult for Shye, a barrage of exploding orbs of flame was already headed their way.
*BOOM* *BOOM* *BOOM*
Consecutive explosions occurred—huge ones, prompting smoke to rise and dust to fly everywhere from the area of devastation.
Shortly after, the nauseating smell of roasted human flesh wafted in the air, causing Seira's stomach to churn in disgust.
She tried hard to suppress her urge to vomit, however, she failed—hard.
"Don't get distracted! Take advantage of his vulnerability!" Arden's slightly panicking voice sounded from where the scouts were, prompting the dazed scouts to continue charging toward Shye—desperation evident on their ugly faces.
Unfortunately, there were no such "vulnerabilities" for them to take advantage of as Shye's other staff were already aimed towards them.
All of them were simply too used to mages chanting gibberish before firing a spell.
None of them understood what happened earlier but they couldn't hesitate now, otherwise, the assassination would fail.
Once again caught off guard by Shye's chantless spell, three of the scouts suffered lethal hits from a horizontal rain of frozen thorns—some gruesomely stabbed in the throat with the leader, Arden, barely managing to escape.
"Y-YOU!! HOW CAN YOU FIRE SPELLS WITHOUT CHANTING?!"
