BECOMING AN IRREGULAR WITH A ROGUE SYSTEM

Ch19. By frenzied force

Chapter -22: Ch19. By frenzied force

[EVELLYN'S POV]

Today, I woke up in cold sweat.

The thing is, I don't feel afraid of when I dream, because even before I awakened, I used to have this dreams.

I dreamed of what was, of what is, and what hasn't yet been.

I carry many secrets, and it's very much part of who I am, or who I will become.

The Red Oracle.

But in order to actually have a future where I become that figure, I needed Kurt.

He doesn't know that, but he's a fundamental part of my story. That's why, when I saw him entering my room, even before he won against his older brother, Quintus Blake, my heart raced.

If only he knew how much trouble he will get to go through because of me...

Would he have taken a different path that took us separate ways in a different reality?

Even if I knew it, though, it wouldn't change the fact that he had already taken the high road towards his future.

But in that dream, there was no Kurt.

There was nothing but a black void of nothingness after Quintus killed me and wrecked havoc in the guild.

What makes me more frustrated about it isn't dying by itself.

But not knowing what's gonna happen after that.

I know that death is part of the process. Especially my death.

Because every time I died, I always knew what I had to do next. Where I should go, to keep on carrying out my mission.

It's only that this time it didn't seem possible.

It felt as though my permanent death was... Inevitable.

So I did one thing that I wasn't used to.

I left my room, and went upstairs to speak with Rodrick, the guild leader.

When I arrived, he was having a drink at the guild's bar counter, so I got behind him, and poked him in the elbow.

"May I speak with you, sir?"

He flinched for a second, and laughed real hard.

"If you kept silent for a little bit longer, I swear you could've made me have a heart attack. What do you need, Eve? I know you don't leave your room, unless it's something urgent."

He looked at me in the eyes, very curious about what I had to say.

Rodrick was a good old man, despite being a thief.

And he was a thief, despite his enormous size.

"Quintus Blake is coming here, I don't know when, but it's today..." I put all seriousness possible into my words. "We need to get ready."

Rodrick looked at me for a moment, and I could almost hear his thoughts.

"Little girl, Quintus is not a threat to the guild, and you know it. He might be a spy, just like you warned us about, but he's nothing more that just that."

I knew I couldn't tell him about the dream itself. It never worked out well, when I told people of what I had dreamed of... But if I didn't tell him, I wasn't going to be the only corpse in front of the guild.

So I breathed in, slowly, and with all my determination, I began explaining everything.

"Rodrick, I know you can't see things like I see, and I also know that you're not supposed to know how what I know works. But right. Now. I'm telling you. I dreamed of Quintus Blake coming to the guild, fully enraged, almost as if he just killed somebody. I'm worried that he might've done something to Kurt... He feels completely different, and when he arrives, he will go all out on you." I gave a brief pause, for Rodrick to understand the depth of it. "And then... He's going to kill me."

But right then, before the guild leader could even consider what I just told him, we felt a tremor above ground.

Rodrick looked at me, his eyes wide in surprise.

"He's here!" I told him. "We can't let him get here, we must go upstairs!"

"Did you see anything of the the situation's outcome?"

I shook my head.

He sighed in frustration, turning around and going to the elevator, and I followed him.

"No!" He held my arm. "If what you said is really going to happen, and it most certainly is, then, you'll die if you follow me, so stay in your room, okay?"

I clenched my fists and retorted right away.

"No! I don't know why, but I feel like I must see this through, so please, Rodrick... Don't make me convince you."

He sighed again, let go of my arm, and warned.

"If that Blake bastard gets to lay a single finger on you, I'll kill him."

"Let's hope that Fate don't get to that point..."

And we got going.

When we finally arrived above ground, the guild lobby was in shambles, with destruction all around.

And Quintus was in the middle of it, yelling like a maniac.

"IF YOU DON'T BRING ME THAT BASTARD RODRICK IN THIS FUCKING INSTANT, I'LL TEAR THE WHOLE SHADOW GUILD IN PIECES!"

He looked crazy, almost frenzied, and the mana around him felt wild.

"So you're finally showing your true colors, Blake?" Rodrick spoke, walking towards him. "What do you want here, and why don't you calm down just a little, so we can have a proper talk?"

Rodrick was the most reasonable person in the entire guild. No wonder he was the leader.

But when it came to the guild itself, and protecting its members, he would always become something else entirely.

I never seen it happen in person, but I had dreams about it, and I also heard stories from the other guild members, so I already knew what was going to happen.

And that was Rodrick's first step.

He would try diplomacy at first, always level-headed.

But I didn't think it would work this time.

"How about you tell me what's so important about Kurt, and I don't tear your oh-so precious guild down...?"

"Come on, Quintus, I don't want to get rough on you... Let's just solve by..."

But Quintus didn't want to solve it by talking it out.

Right before Rodrick finished his sentence, Kurt lifted the whole reception desk with his telekinesis, and threw it at Rodrick in an immense speed.

It really looked like he was putting no effort at all to it.

However, Rodrick was strong, too, and used his Iron Body ability to smash the desk into bits, before it did any major harm.

He was one of the very few A-ranks to rival with Octavius Blake himself, which meant that, if things were escalating that quickly, it would end up pretty badly to one of them.

And all of us would be caught us in the crossfire.

Quintus took the time as an opportunity to get closer to Rodrick, enveloping his fist with his telekinesis, and punching him right in the face.

If Rodrick was any weaker, he would've stumbled backwards, and I would get hurt.

But I had to do something.

Anything!

That was when my body moved by itself, and I put myself between them, shouting.

"STOP!"

I was part of the guild, too. So I couldn't just stand back and watch, even though Quintus was way out of my league as a wielder.

Even if I was an irregular.

But Quintus didn't even flinch.

He just wrapped his ability around me and threw me sidewards, where I hit a wall, and a searing pain crossed my leg.

I looked at it, and saw that it was pierced by one of the shards of the desk that Rodrick just destroyed.

But I got up, frenzied by the thought that something had to happen.

Rodrick wouldn't stand a chance against Quintus as he was right now, and I had to give even the tiniest help if I could.

Even if it meant making fate come true.

So I forced my way in between them again, shouting as hard as I could, despite the pain.

"STOP! PLEASE!"

Then I felt my choke closing, and my body being lifted.

Quintus was using his ability to strangle me.

"One more move, and she dies." He said, as I felt it becoming harder to breathe. "Now, why the little day dreamer is out of her room? WHY IS IT THAT EVERYTHING IS HAPPENING AND I. DON'T. KNOW. A THING!?"

He squeezed harder, and I felt as if my lungs were about to explode.

"HEY! QUINTUS!"

I heard that familiar voice, sounding just a little far away.

Quintus released his telekinetic grip over me, and turned around.

Kurt was there.

He was all wet, bloody and messed up, but he looked fine.

In my eyes, he looked like a hero...
