Chapter 41: Impert Snakes—Part (2)
"Well if you want—"
"Thank you!" Thalia threw herself in the arms of Damien causing him to stiffen. For a man who had only held hands with one woman —who turned out to be a cheating scum— this was too much.
His cheeks turned red as he felt Thalia's soft body press right against his.
"Host, there is a sudden upheaval of emotions in your body," Dan who had been silent till now spoke up causing Damien to snap out of his daze. "Does the contact between humans creates such a strong reaction?"
"Ah—yeah, yeah it does," Damien answered not wanting to explain the cause of this sudden upheaval.
Thalia sniffed twice before pulling away. She wiped her eyes before saying, "If you bring my father back safely, I am willing to become your slave for life. If that's what you want."
"We —uh—we will talk about the payment later on," said Damien because Xavier was looking mutinous like he wanted to stab his claws right where the sun shone for Damien. "First tell us about this mission that your father took."
Thalia nodded. "It was a simple mission, he just needed to clear up the nest of the Impert Snakes. With my father being a bobcat beastman, he should have dealt with this manifestation with ease but …" she let out a shuddering sob and covered her face as she once again started to cry.
"…But he hasn't come back and I am worried that something might have happened to him."
"I see," Damien said before turning to look at Dan. "Can you display the information on Impert Snakes?"
Dan blinked his eyes before the pupils in his eyes turned completely white and soon strings of green code started to move up and down. Damien noticed a flicker of green light flashing past them before returning.
"Information Collected."
"Displaying the information."
A second later, Dan displayed the image of a gigantic snake that was big and fat. It looked so ugly that he couldn't have given his old orphanage director a run for her money. Countless fangs protruded out of its mouth, with eyes that looked mean and straight out of hell.
And were those thorns at the back of its tail? It was.
[Impert Snakes: Vicious C rank monsters.
Attacks: Poisonous Mist and Crush of Death.]
[Can crush anyone to death with its thorny tail.]
[Poisonous Mist can melt flesh off the bones of the body of its prey.]
[If you see it. Run.]
Damien: "…" Well it was too late for that now.
"Will you save my father?" Thalia asked tentatively as she peered at Damien who had gone silent, she thought that he was scared off by the mention of Impert Snakes.
Damien snapped out of his thoughts. He smiled and raised his hand before patting Thalia on her head, "Don't worry, I will try my best to bring him back."
"Lors Damien!" Xavier raised his voice, as he could no longer take it anymore. He caught Damien by his arm and pulled him away. "Lord Damien, are you crazy! Don't you see how dangerous this mission is?"
"The Impert snake beast is not something you can take on just because you want to. I am sure Master Godric refused to help her because her father....."
Xavier stopped when he looked at the crying face of the girl and Damien understood what he was trying to say but despite the dangers, Damien was adamant about helping Thalia.
He understood her pain better than anyone.
When he was young, he would peer out of the doors of the orphanage hoping that his parents would come and bring him back home. But they never did.
A new day, a new hope and a new dejection.
It was like a painful cycle for him.
His parents didn't come to get him and he grew accustomed to living alone but that didn't mean that Thalia had to do the same.
Since there was a chance, why not? Maybe her father was still alive.
"I know it's dangerous," said Damien. "But we cannot just leave her alone, maybe her father is injured. If that's the case then all I need to do is to treat him."
No sooner did he say those words, there was a ding followed by the notification screen activating in front of him.
[You have shown great determination and courage!]
[ New Mission: Save the life of Thalia's father.]
[Rewards: Potion to Spell. A quick way of turning your potions into spells, no need to carry vials and bottles.]
[Special Reward: Yet to be unlocked.]
Damien looked at the mission in front of him before turning to look at Dan.
"Did you activate this mission?"
However, the hologram frowned as his image flickered and he said, "No, this is not done by me."
A gust of warm wind filled with the scent of sea blew past them and Damien felt a funny prickling at the back of his neck like someone was looking at him.
He turned around and looked behind him but he didn't see anyone. What the fuck was wrong with him?
"Lord Damien," Xavier said to him in a stressed tone. "You cannot accept this mission."
Damien would have at least pretended to listen if the mission in front of him had not been displayed but now that it had— he could not ignore it anymore.
He turned to look at Xavier and then glanced at Thalia before grinning at her, "Don't look like that, we are going to bring your father back. Now just tell us where we need to go."

"This is a foolish task, one that will end with all of our heads on the floor," said Xavier. He was staring at Damien despite the wonderful scenery he could have seen through the window of the carriage.
Damie arched a brow as he turned to look at Xavier from the large birds that were flying in the sky. The shadow of their wings alone was enough to cover their carriage.
"If you are scared then you don't have to come," said Damien as the carriage came to a halt. He stepped out of the carriage and turned to look at Xavier before saying, "I will think of something alone."
Xavier studied him with great distaste but as Damien turned around on his feet, the sound of footsteps followed him.
Damien turned and looked at Xavier who was unwillingly following him. "That's like a brave wolf."
Xavier scowled at him.
